difference between sameer, samir and sam(modified version)

in india, one of my friend's name is sameer and he is not a muslim..he is hindu...

"samir" used more than 37 times on RD gets you banned. It's an RD law.

I don't ever go by sam, I go by Sameer. Both ways of spelling are acceptable (Sameer, Samir). The root word from which the name comes from is Arabic, therefore muslims used that name well before Hindu people.
