another miss india won an international pageant title! her name is Sonal Chauhan & the pageant is Miss Tourism 2005.

India's always been known for its beauties. And Saturday reaffirmed that fact when Ponds Femina Miss India 2005 finalist and Provogue Miss 8888 title-holder Sonal Chauhan won the Miss Tourism 2005 title at Miri in Malaysia's Sarawak state. Winning this contest was no mean feat for the Agra-born Sonal, considering that she was up against 30 of the world's most beautiful women.

"I am truly honoured and feel extremely blessed that I was adjudged the best among a whole bevy of gorgeous girls. There was no particular strategy that I followed. From day one, I decided to take each day as it came and didn't bother myself with getting nervous or stressed-out," says the 20-year-old philosophy student.

What went into her preparations for the pageant? "It's really funny but I had very little time to prepare. But thankfully I had an entire team of designers and stylists who helped put together all my clothes. I owe a large part of my success to Lascelles Symmons and Hemant Lalwani who did my costumes. In fact, my costume for the national round was not ready and so I got to Malaysia two days later than the other girls," says Sonal.

What floored the judges was Sonal's honest answers to their questions. She was asked: If you could change one thing, what would it be and why? Her answer: I would abolish ignorance.... People are not aware of the problems facing the world such as corruption, poverty and terrorism. If there was awareness, half the battle would be won.

But the final question was the one that clinched the crown. She was asked by a judge: If I came to your country, where would you take me and why? To this Sonal replied: I would take you to Rishikesh to show you that there is still a place on earth where you can get peace and mental calm.

The beauty says that she can't wait to get back home and that she will always remember the love and support showered on her by the people of Malaysia.

"There is this one particular incident that really touched my heart. As part of the pageant, we had to visit an orphanage where there was this small girl who wouldn't leave my hand throughout the visit. When I was about to leave she just clung to me and wouldn't let go.

don't know what invisible bond the two of us shared that day, but I will never forget that child. Call it fate or destiny but I'm sure we have a past connection," says an emotional Sonal. A beauty with a conscience what a winsome combination!

The Miss Tourism Pageant is in its 22nd year. The first pageant was held in 1983.

Sonal Chauhan defeated Miss Russia Natalya Pervova and Miss Lebanon Sandra Raymond El-Sayegh, who were first and second runnersup respectively.

30 contestants from all over the world participated in the Miss Tourism Pageant 2005.

This year, the Miss Tourism Pageant was part of the celebration of Miri achieving city status in May, 2005.

What was the final question? I find Jailtey ditzy. She can't act either. And she blamed it on the previous Miss Universes LOL she was like "oh I didn't make it cause the Miss Indias before me gave wrong answers and still made it to the title so they would've thought it's fishy that Miss Indias always make it." something like that. Stupid hoe.

Edit: too bad I lack the looks and I'm not politically correct enough for that.

Man who was that one that "misanswered" the question "who is the woman you admire most in the world". Apparently the "correct" answer was "Mother Teresa" and some girl answered "my mom" and still made it to the title. Haha omg I'm such a girl, I know all these tiny details about such contests. *hides*
