rebelious children

ok i dont know about you guys but i think that the more strict parents are on thier teenS they tend to rebel more. I know that parents want to teach thier kids good family values and to become a decent respectful child as "they once were" but its just ridiculous sometimes how some kids just aren't allowed to go certain places. I have some friends including me that can't go to the mall with a group of friends just beacuse thier scared that we might get kidnapped or raped or hey might even meet the ever so dreaded "boyfriend" :? Like seriously you might think that im only saying this because my parents are very strict with me but what can u say for those gurls that just aren't allowed to do anything!!!i have some friends that are just great in certain sports but they can never join the teams at school just beacuse thier father wont let them stay away from home after school for so long just for PRACTICE AND GAMES. and some who cant join simple things like debate teams and committees because they interact with males or they are exposed to much to world issues that are "negative" towards thier home country. :? wtf is that all about!? I know sooo many gurls that want to get into journalism, photography culinary arts etc...but thier fathers want them to become computer engineers and computer programmers. i understand that tthats where all the money is gonna be but why force a child to do something they dont want to even if ur paying for thier education!?!?!? im so sure that if they were a guy they would be able to go to the mall, join teams, make decisions on thier own and atleast have someee freedom in thier teenage life!! i had a discussion with my dad about this and now im allowed to go certain places etc... and i understand how they are worried for us but what will we say to our kids when thy ask what did u do when u were teens?!?!? "oh beta/beti i didnt get to do ne thing, i stayed home studied like maddd did chores and went to school." i think that u learn alot from the things that you EXPERIENCE!!!! hands on situations sticks in a persons mind than something that they read somewhere. all i know is that i en gonna restrict my kids like that (if i have ne ) nor will they have total freedom. its just that if they force us to do certain things to study study study and nuthing else were gonna CRACK! and turn to the wrong side of things....alcohol...weed..sex...watever...just to prove dem wrong, just to prove to demselves that thier capable to do the "normal" things other teens do and before they know it thier addicted to drugs, or thier pregnant the next day.

Ya the bottom line is Don't be too strict , Don't be too lenient either. Somewhere between these two extremes is how parents should be. BTW Poor you haha I live alone:P Parents in a different country. Yayyyy I just came back from a night of loitering on campus

ok first off uve gotta understand..we got desi rents..all of them are practically alike..they alll want us to be comp. engineers,doctors or etc just do WHAT U want to do...the career ull be most happy with.
second, if u hang out with the opposite gender, its a sin or sumthing..i guess u just need to talk to ur parents about this kinda stuff..and make them understand what ur goin through since ur in a different country and all..
i remember wen i was younger..i really wasnt aloud to chill with guys..and i honestly i didnt wanna talk to ne guys around my parent becuz i didnt want them lecturing me at home/ in the car etc.
as i got older..i made more and more guy friends..and it was soo hard NOT to hang out with them..i talked to my mom/dad about it..haha OBVIOUSLY they werent too happy..but i guess they understood what i meant..and also its a matter of trust, if ur parents can trust u there really shudnt be a reason why u cant hang out with the opposite gender..just make ur decisions wisely
i didnt get that one part..why arent u aloud to hang out in large groups again? ur rents are afraid that ull get kidnapped/raped in a large group?

Fortunately i'm blessed with really good parents that aren't too strict nor too leniant, i mean like they're strict when it comes to coming home on time, but like they always trust me on where i'm going and who i'm going with and I have never done anything to go against their trust and it feels good too not having to lie to them....They're strict when it comes to guys though, but that's mostly all desi parents and I understand that....and i know soo many kids whose parents are veryy strict but the kids are soo messed up, and i think gt is right....

I was always allowed to do whatever I want! But my older sister was always on a lock down! My parents put in an all girls private HS! I was allowed to choose what HS i wanted to go to! She couldn't stay out till past 11 pm and she was 21! well, she rebelled and moved out and other shit happened, then my parents decided to give her freedom!

yeah my dad used to be really strict on me, but my mom kept telling him to be more lenient cuz id start to rebel and eventually, once i moved out, not really speak much to them out of frustration and anger of him being so strict. which probably wouldve been true. when my parents were in their twenties they worked w/ this girl who was a preacher's daughter, so of course she was really wild and everything...so my mom just kept warning him that if he didnt ease up id end up like d-day (thats what they called that girl they knew)...

I dont think thats the case. Some kids parents who are really strict actually listen to their parents. Just depends on how much feal lies in the child-parent relationship.

Wow that was long, but I agree. Parents have a job to guide their kids so they make the right choices, its good for them to be strict, but at the same time let them test the waters. I can speak from personal experince, that the more Im kept protected and locked up inside, the more tempted I get to break free. It seems easy to say I know, and I understand that kids want to do whatever they want, and parents want to keep a lid on what their children does.
Espicially during the teen years, we go through a hard time, and I dont know about others, but Indian parents really dont understand the issues we go through, they should support us, and help us get through them. Thats an advantage our generation has, when we have kids, we'll know how to deal with those issues, because most of us have been through them. But anyways, I know exactly what ur saying. My dad strict like a lot of people I know, parents think that if they keep their kids locked up and try to control everything, nothing will ever hurt their kids, but in reality its gonna hurt them more...
