here is what's been happenin recently in the city where i have been brought up in: Dubai

The World Islands— 300 artificial islets laid out like a map of the world. There's France, Florida, Ohio, even a mini-Antarctica baking in the 80-degree heat. Each island will range from 250,000 to 900,000 square feet in size, with 50 to 100 metres of water between each island. The development is to cover an area of 9 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width, surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater. The only means of transportation between the islands will be by marine transport.

Construction has begun on the $US 1.8 billion project which is set to be completed by the end of 2005. Each island will be sold to selected private developers and are expected to have pricing beginning at Dhs. 25 million (US$ 6.85 million).

this is another project...this is jus one of the palm islands...there are i think 2 more such projects...one of them is already constructed..and the soccer stars Beckham and Owen have already bought property here.

the famous 7-star Burj Al Arab hotel...its been a year now i guess...i havent gone there yet...but my dad has....
below is a pic of one of the suites (not the top most) in this hotel...
top most suite which is the royal suite costs around USD9000-10,000 for one night's stay! and the lowest suite costs about USD1300 per night!

If Elton John and Donatella Versace teamed up to create a hotel, it would probably look a lot like Dubai's Burj Al Arab, which describes itself as "tremendously bold." The hotel's two Royal Suites are a gleeful explosion of all things gold, glittery and marble. Then again, what would you expect from a hotel that is shaped like a billowing sail and is the tallest hotel in the world (1,053 feet high, only slightly smaller than the Empire State Building)?

To put the Royal Suites in context, the Burj Al Arab also has its own submarine ride to an underwater restaurant complete with shark-infested aquarium, and it is built on top of a manmade island (merely crossing the bridge will cost you $55). Guests are met at the airport in a Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. The two Royal Suites, located on the 25th floor, are split-level rooms joined by a private elevator. The rooms feature a private cinema, whirlpool baths and rotating beds. Each room also has a meeting room, dining room, dressing room and butler's room with a separate entrance. The décor is a mix of Greek, Arabic and over-the-top Italian as interpreted by Versace (some of the bed linens are indeed Versace).

now finally the hottest thing in dubai yet to come up...and is under the planning stage. it is the UNDERWATER resort hotel named Hydropolis! this is what its gonna look like by October 2006:

not really
dubai doesnt have much oil as compared to saudi or kuwait or any1 else
people have been buying property on these lands already
celebrities like beckham n elton john..
besides
the numba 1 industry is the tourism industry in the UAE...thats what is driving the economy there right now.
and all this jus boosts tourism even more

DUBAI makes most $ of trade not oil as popularly believed........

and there are lots of places in the middle east where they do not have oil and its jst plain gorguz lebanon and syria 4 example r so BTIFUL...

and MOROCCO...........i LOVE MOROCCO.........so mch history and beauty in it......

u lived in dubai?? when? where in dubai?
i jus came from dubai last september in 2004....now studyin here in toronto.

wow it's gorgeous....i actually found out there was a country called dubai in january lol...i met this guy at skool and he told me he was from there...and i saw the islands thingyon E! but they nvr said it was in dubai...they said it was around europe! but now tht ive seen dubai...it looks awesome!.... it looks reallly cool....im so blown away lol its unbelievable esp for a country i recently found out existed....

that true bahrain has virtually no oil but they're still building this.. they're all rich countries via trade

dubai is a city not country , its belong to U.A.E. aka United Arab Emirates

coz dubai as a city itself is more well known than UAE...at least in europe and asia if not north america
