Homosexuals + Donating Blood - FAQ? - =o]

Okey soo I just donated blood for the first time today & I noticed on the questionaire thingy that Gay ppl are not allowed to donate blood...

Personally I understand how ppl might assume that being gay that HIV & AIDS "might" be prevalent in the gay community & that Blood clinics might be wary or skeptical of receiving blood from a homosexual.

But I was just wondering the same sort of reasoning could apply to overly promiscuous guys & girls who aren't gay.

Shouldn't they just test the blood before hand, before they decide?

Is it really discrimination?

I think they do test all blood samples.

Gays are still at higher risk for contracting HIV than the general population. I can't see why Lesbians should be excluded though.

But if you're gonna wiegh the risks of bad blood being circulated in hospitals vs. a few people being butthurt, which would you rather prefer?

Maybe they're afraid if they transfuse gay blood into another person, it'll make them gay. We don't want a gay society, now do we?

It's absolutely the stupidest thing the blood clinics do. And yeah, it's discriminatory and unfair and ridiculous to be asking in 2009.

The only question that's relevant is whether or not you've had sexual contact with an HIV-infected person, not if you're homosexual.

Homosexuals can't donate blood because they lose blood during anal intercourse...The fags have intercourse almost everyday and they bleed from the tears, leading to chronic blood loss. This eventually leads to iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficient people can't donate blood...

I don't know how it works in the USA, but in Canada we don't take blood from HIV, AIDs patients straight or homosexual. So maybe y'all need some better screening.

they also asked me if I had done coke before. I thought all drugs would be a bad thing and not just cocaine
