directing sound output

is it possible to direct sound from your pc to different outputs.

i.e.
say you have two media players playing two different songs. could you direct the first player to the pc speakers and the sound from the other player to the headphones?

microsoft is actually thinking about 4 outputs, the other 2 r for toilet and kitchen
