So This Desi Female Came Into The Emergency Room After a "Bleach Attack"

She had puffy redden eyes, and scald-like markings on her face.
The Emergency room physicians immediately thought her husband probably threw bleach on her face in some sort of domestic violence situation. After the police was contacted she embarrassinglyconfessed.


Turns out she was putting bleach on her face to lighten her skin tone. She would pour bleach onto a towel then place it on her face every night. Sorta like what white people do with cucumbers......

Yeah, she was quite dark and I didn't think the bleach was helping her none....

I made a crass joke and said I was going to write her a prescription for Fair n' Lovely. However I couldn't since Fair n' Lovely had NO ACTIVE INGREDIENTS! And is not considered a medical type cream. In other words, it doesn't work.

She use to dilute the bleach in water before applying it to her face, but wanted a "stronger" outcome so she applied it to the cloth undiluted.

i use the ayurvedic fair & lovely.
it keeps me from breaking out.. its a miracle...

That product has never been clinically proven to work actually.

well she obviously not concerned with the ill effects of bleach on her health, so i'd heartily recommend her using arsenic powder as make-up to help lighten up her skin tone.

She's 26 and only been in America for about 4 years. She's a slave to the "Ol' Country" way of thinking....

it reminds me of pooja's topic i was really shocked at how many desi girls, modern educated women were interested in her results from trying diff products even after i posted the risk of skin cancer and what not

I agree bit it remains a major concern for brown/desi and certain African females.

I don't ignore their concerns or try to psychoanalyze them- I usually recommend a 2% hydroquinone based cream for only 6 weeks.

Pretty much yea. So sad, I am sure its something that has been perpetutaed in her and lots of other people since they were young by not only media but family as well. I am not going to lie but I feel inadequate too when I compare myself to my light skinned relatives, and that is pretty stupid on my part for falling into the belief that there is something wrong with me just because I gots more melanin.
