PUNJABIS..rep your area (lahori people welcome)

there are 3 main areas of Punjab. They are seperated by the rivers. There names are Majha, Malwa, and Doaba. They are different for many reasons. The Most important tho is each area has it's own completely unique dialect of Punjabi,

Majha

(Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Lahore)

the difference in Majha in speech is that the language is sort of rude. it's direct and vulgar. for example a Majha person will say "eh kee keeta jay" or "kee karan daya". They call a brother "bhau" or "veer" or "paa". Majha people are known to be larun wallay . They don't take shit from no one and they are ready to throw some fists or swing a gandasi at your head if you piss them off enough(not hard to do). They also swear in punjabi in a way unlike others.

Doaba

Jalandhar, Hoshiapur, Kapurthala, Nawanshar

the difference in Doaba in speech is very mithi/sweet. it shows intelligence. for example a Doaba person will say "kee keeta" or "kee karda tu" or "kee karda oh". They call a brother "bhai". Doaba people are known to be paasa wallay . They only care about getting the paper. This is evident in my last thread "rep your district" where nearly 50% of you were from Jalandhar, proving that Doaba people will leave their families behind in the pursuit of money. They will even leave their own wives for greener pastures. When western born people from Doaba come to Punjab and go to their pind..it's empty.

Malwa

Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Firozpur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Mukstar, Moga, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa

the difference in Malwa speech is that its kind of funny. their way of talk has alot of slurred words. for example "keeeee keetaaaaa" or "kee tee oh aahh" or "aathany takh eiknay hee chulluga"(means shaam takh idhan chulloo ga in majha talk). They have alot of land usually, and for that fact, they are known as nasha wallay . They like to get fucked up. Alot of Pooki/Pheem(Opium). The enjoy nothing more then getting high and lying down on a munja and staring at the clouds as they go by. Alot of truck drivers are also from Malwa.

I always wondered when these disctinctions were made. On some maps I saw they considered all the way into Sheikapura which is in Pakistan to be majha.

yeah pakistan has alot of majha territory. i dont know the paki districts tho. i know me and all my lahori boys speak the exact same punjabi.

Yeah I've noticed that too.
But I find that the dialect is more noticeable, even with people outside of India.

I feel like such a FOB when I realise how I'm familiar with all these pind names
