On Clothes and how much i hate them

So recently I decided to open my closet and see what's REALLY inside it. I have been opening my closet every day in the morning ever since i got my own room and frankly my hands are kind of tired now with all that opening and closing. I usually just grab the same old gray t-shirt that's closest to me, it mysteriously always ends up on the same shelf. Well, actually i have my lovely mom to thank for that. Thanks for the laundry ma, I owe you one. <3. So this is what i have in my closet:

13 unremarkable striped shirts - 3 of them went out of style in 2003,2 hoodies,6 pair of jeans, 2 khakis, 2 shorts, 1 speedo, 15 pair of boxers (three of them with holes in peculiar places) ,2 t-shirts of my favorite band ;the chemical brothers, 2 michigan universities pajamas,14 pair of socks, 30 regular t-shirts, 3 jackets, 1 leather biker jacket, 2 pair of chappals, 1 sandal, 7 pair of shoes (Nike, Addidas, Champs, Fake Doc Martin and Catepiller...mostly from Payless Shoes <3), one black suite, 3 ties, 4 caps and 3 belts.

Out of all of this I only wear about 1/4 of my closet. The rest are just chilling there smoking pot like a posse of sad clowns. I can't believe that I have accumulated so much unneccassary garbage over the years. So I have decided to endow half of my clutter to the Salvation Army and only keep absolutely the essential fabric. Hopefully taking this radical step will ensue less stress, simplified lifestyle which is free from this pressure to look good. Minimalistic.

I was thinking why I hate clothes and why I loathe going to the malls. Which by the way are the epicenter of all the boredom in the world especially designed to piss me off. The answer is clear. I never cared about clothes up until high school. The middle school I attended in India required students of wear uniforms. Blue pants and shirts with black shoes and a tie. Simple. Superb. This was just as good as being nude and there was sense of tantamount, a commonality. Didn't have to wake up in the morning facing a dilema and having this conversation with yourself and your clothes...hmm which one of you lucy buggers are going to see the world today and have the priveldge of being on my skin. Ok, maybe not exactly. But bye bye what people would say and think about your attire. Which was just lovely.

Fast-forward to high school in the U.S. I had a very eccentric way of dressing in high school. My clothes would never match and when they did, it was an extreme case of all black or all blue. I would wear yellow pants with red shirt and blue socks and wearing shorts in winter (this is Michigan winter we are talking about). Mismatch.Now this would really confuse people and skew their judgements and observation about me. Never letting them think what I was thinking. There was a sense of mystery about me throughout highschool. Perfect, I loved to confuse people like that. But never attracting too much attention from them. For god sakes I loved being alone. I have so many different styles of tees its ridiculous and it becomes hard for people to pigeonhole my style. I didn't do this intentionally, I just never cared about my outward appearance AT ALL. While shopping I would always conclude that I was making a very good fashion choice which would look hip and cool but deep down I knew I was only picking them because they were darn cheap.

Some wear clothes for sex, some for success, some for comfort. I wear them because there are no nudist colleges in this part of the world.I never quite understood some people's obssession with clothes and name brands but now i'm beginning to see why. It is to attract eyes, get attention, get people to ask them questions about their dress and style, likeminded people will always comment and they want them to remark. I don't. OMG where did you get those shoes from, I love them...they are like cute and stuff. They wear expensive clothes in order to fit in, to be accepted by their friends no matter how uncomfortable they are. They will do it to feel secure. To have a sense of self, identity, something other shallow people will remember them by.. The more people are spending on their looks and brand names the more superficial they become. I'm aware of people saying..look he wore that same shirt yesterday..eww...it's just that I don't give a fuck so stop coming up to me and asking me to go to the mall or do you think this looks good on me or is red my color? Bitch please

I guess you are one of those people who dresses fashionably because its something you do.You find new ways to match, find patterns and colors which would look aesthetically pleasing. I can tell you too have a very eccentric way of dressing. This is judging from your past pic-whores. I find nothing wrong with people who have a real passion of dressing up in cool and something new as a way to express yourself. Well put. I do dress differently.

But do you really find not socializing with others AT ALL better for you? I mean I'm not miss "Queen of the world" when it comes to my social life, but connecting with others is an important thing. Naw mean? Doing it reasonably is the key. This way nobody can screw you over. As with me, nobody has really gotten on my bad side within the past year because of it.

And you know what dude, I love to dress because clothing is my passion. Making clothing, designing it. Thus, I do a lot that has to do with it.
And with you, sprucing yourself up once in a while wouldn't hurt. Shows the world you're ready to take it head on.

Just saying all of this regarding your past threads.

17 mins...that's my record time i spent shopping once and i managed to get 3 t-shirts and 2 pairs of jeans...they all fit perfect.
but yeah..my closet looks like a donation box for some goodwill store.

I'm not saying I don't socialize. Once in a while I become super daring and step outside my domain to have a chat with my friends. It's just I'm tired of it, my priorities have changed. I like the life of seculsion to some degree even though it's a little self-fulfilling but its fun. I get to read for hours undisturbed, write, make cool music...this is something i always wanted to do and in college I'm got that independence.
I have countless number of friends back home in India. I mean a lot, my e-mails are always full,msn list just keeps on getting bigger, random people from highschool and middle school sending me friend requests on Orkut and myspace,friends and cousing calling me everytime...there is no shortage of people in my life. ok..here goes ;

I used to be like you.. hated the idea of clothes, there were just a means of keeping me warm

but there comes a point when you realise (for me very recently) no matter how much you don't care about what you wear or what others wear, and make no judgements.. others do

Clothes aren't just for comfort.. people do take notice & judge, you have to put effort in your appearance ..

what does bother me thou is the generic, homonogized way of stylign.. its all the same shit, being stylish is being the same as everyone else...

I guess as much as hate the idea of being superficial, sometimes it is needed ... you have to look the part
