Its not he latest fashion, poking fun at religion/religious figures/figureheads/etc have been going around for a long time - at least in the US. People used to be open minded about these things and took 'em for what the were, humor. Now all of a sudden, especially after 911 and the whole hullabaloo about not stereotyping, we've got people barking PCness left and right. Just because you laugh at these things don't make you tasteless, you can still have some sort of respect while maintaining a level of humor.

It does have to do with the enormous power religious fundamentalists have gained in this country. But vulgar rhetoric is not going to gain anything.

What this idiot has done is to transplant what are only the current American expression on another country. Obviously others are not going to agree. We certainly don't have a culture war in India right now.

We make fun of our politicians too. It just depends on what region of India you are in. In Kerala, its the only form of humour I guess.

I think the issue is the kind of humour. It has gone to the toilet lately but not everywhere.
