What are the rules of Muslim engagement?

In order to consider yourself engaged, what processes/steps do you have to follow? Like… do I have to buy her a diamond ring or those simple rings? And/or do we have to go the mosque or something? Any paperwork involved? What else…???

Also, after being engaged can you like break up due to any reason? Does it have to be a valid reason? Will Allah be mad, like is it bad as breaking a marriage?

Are you allowed to flirt with each other after being engaged or do you have wait until real marriage?

What do you call the event where all sunni Muslims invite their family members and there friends after their son has been engaged?

I usually refer to my mom for such questions but I don't want her to get nervous or get existed... she is like that; she is one of those moms who think they are funny but get on your nerves…

there are no "engagements" in islam.
its just traditions we have adopted differs from person to person, culture to culture, race to race.

Once you've had your nikkah, you are Islamically married but desi custom doesn't see it that way.

alota ppl get rings/watches but it dosnt matter, it can just be verbal.
no paperwork involved no need for mosque. its just a word, like a promise

no allah wont be mad cuz its nothing, oh obiously if u do it for a stupid reason and hurt the other side emotionally/monatryly yeh but that has nothing to do with "engagement"

i have a question.....this girl that goes to my old skool got married last year, she was 15 n had the nikkah over the phone but shes like my paretns said im not really married cuz the guy wasnt there n stuff n she said sumthin that started with an 'r' lol i cant rmr the name but shes like since that didnt happen shes not married......so is she really married or does it not count?

if she was being married against her will that marriage isnt real in the first place
