How do you call yourself religious?

Ok. I know the title itself is grounds for flaming but shut up kay?

I see so many people [on RD alone] that pick and choose what they want to follow from their respective religions and yet have the nerve to call themselves "religious."

Now let me just say, I know I'm not religous for shit but the thing is...I never claimed to be.

[Muslims]: Have premarital sex. Get tattoos. Drink. Yet won't eat pork and get uber defensive in any Muslim related discussion? On what grounds exactly?

[Hindus]: Have premarital sex. Eat beef. Yet have quotations from the Bhagavad-Gita in their sigs and go around flaming Muslims?

[Sikhs]: You cut your hair but walk around sporting a khanda medallion around your neck [or interestingly, tattooed on your hairy chest].

I concede that everyone isn't like this. But a lot are. How does one rationalize being so pig-headedly defensive about their religion, when they themselves don't follow it as it was meant to be followed?

Discuss. Rationally. Go.

im a sikh kid but i dont claim to be really religious or anything..ive got respect for my religion..in a kinda strange way as i do stuff that im not meant to do like eat meat, drink, cut my hair, have sex etc..but when its time to go gurdwara with my mum/dad then i will go dressed conservatively and stuff..i wont go wearing jeans that barely cover my arse and stuff..

ive never claimed to be a religious person, i kinda was when i was younger but as i got older things kinda changed.

im not a religious person as ive said but i will defend the religion when its being badmouthed..even though i dont follow it.

I still don’t consider my self religious , for Muslims praying namaaz and being good with halal earnings is a duty every muslims should do.

i'm not good at these kinda topics

i don't think i claim to be religious... although i won't touch anything that came from a pig and insist on wearing gloves at work... however, i tend to sympathize with muslims around the world more so than other groups... and if they're arab muslims they get like double sympathy points hehehe.

Does Hinduism (the religion rather than the tradition of those that practice it) have anything to say on the matter of premarital sex?

I am not religious but when I was young I read the texts of every major religion since my mom was a Baha'i. I have also attended different churches and synagogues with friends but never truly belonged to any (since I am not religious).

Once you see life and its people beautiful ' then you will begin praying.

Now God does not ask a doctor ' when your in a icu leave out - its nemaaz time. Because God understands that saving life is importnat.

When a lawer fights for justice and its nemaaz time - he should fight for juctice and make up for missed nemaaz.

My point live enjoy life ' career ' but remember we will have children we need to pass our knowlege down.

Muslims were given 50* set - Allah lowered it to 5* yet man is still too selfish and ignorant to praise God.

i'm hindu, but i don't really know how religious i am. i'm vegetarian and i try to celebrate all the major festivals, because i'm fond of the traditions. i don't drink, except on for very rare occasions. i believe in the basic philosphy, but i'm don't follow most rituals, nor do i pray very often. so a bit of a mix i guess...

i can say i've never bashed any religious group as you claim bad hindus do.. i don't think anyone should do that actually.
