Should I Consider Retiring???
|
Ok kids, same rules as before: no bitching and whining about how
much there is to read...suck it up and finish, or leave without commenting, 'kay? Can we handle this? You guys did so well the last time. Keep it up. My Interview For those of you who are unaware, my parents are in town for a couple weeks. You guys have desi parents too...so you oughta know, it's no picnic. I love 'em and all, but I think I need my space every now and then, ya know? I had an interview earlier today for a summer co-op. Big deal for me: they're the only company who bothered interviewing me, and this was a call-back for a second interview. I needed my stinky suit washed and ironed...so mom and dad came in handy for somethin'. On Saturday, they came over to drop off the dry-cleaning, eat lunch with me, see my apartment, etc etc. So far, so good. Before entering, mom said "I know I always give you a hard time for being messy with your stuff, but this is your place now, so I promise I won't say anything." She actually said it in Gujlish, but you get the idea. I didn't expect her to say that, (which is why I tried cleaning up before they came) so I thanked her and we went inside. I took the laundry and placed my black socks with my dress shoes so I wouldn't lose them before Monday. I'm positive this is what I did with them. Fastforward to Sunday. Mom and dad came over again. Dad needed a copy of my driver's license for something so he and I headed over to a computer lab to take care of that. Before leaving, I jokingly asked mom: "Can I trust you here by yourself for 15 minutes?" "Yes," she said. She lied. When we came back, mom was on all fours, piles of papers everywhere, very carefully - and openly - going through my things. "Mom, you said you wouldn't do this..." She quoted Monk and said "You'll thank me later." "No, really, stop." "Ok, ok I will," she said, though her actions greatly contrasted with her words... "Mom, stop cleaning up!" She eventually did stop. They left soon after. Now it's Monday, the big day, today. I wake up and go through the checklist one more time: Portfolio? Check. Bag? Check. Jacket? Check. Shirt? Check. Pants? Check. Belt? Check. Shoes? Check. Socks? ... Where the fuck are my socks?!?! They're important! I can't wear white socks with an all black suit! Shit, I KNOW I put them with the shoes...What could've happened to th- Damn it Mom! I called at 11am, after looking for a solid hour. "Hey mom, do you know where my socks are?" "Vhat?" "My socks. The black ones. Do you know where they are?" "Why would I know where your socks are?" "BECAUSE YOU HAD TO FREAKING TEANR MY PLACE APART YESTERDAY!" "They're in the laundry basket." "No...I'm looking at an empty basket right now. I already looked there. And in the suitcase. And under the bed." I guess dad could hear me on the other end. He started yelling at her. Shit. I hate when he yells at her, and I hate yelling at her even more, but I was tense. In retrospect, I overreacted, but I don't think my reaction is totally unjustified...but now I felt guilty. They were gonna come at 12:30 to take me to the interview, which was scheduled for 2pm, but my dad loves being early. I was planning to go to the library at 9, but the damn 'sock crisis' upset that. I had to go there because the interviewer asked me to buy this book on printing and I got it from the library instead, but it was overdue now and I wanted to renew it to go over in the car. I went to the library, and called mom while I walked. "Hey mom...sorry about before. I'm not in my apartment right now, and I might not be back from the library when you get there, but I'll be back as soon as possible. The door's open and Owen's home." I renewed the book, and on my walk back, dad calls my cell. 12:38. "Why aren't you in your apartment?!" "I had to go to the library and thought I could be back before you got here." "Why was the door unlocked?! What if someone stole your computer?!" "All three of my roommates are home, and Owen's awake, dad." "When are you going to be here?!?" "In a minute." Shit he was pissed. I got there at 12:43. He didn't say a word or make eye contact. He wanted to leave at one. I still had plenty of time. He had no reason to be pissed...all I had left to do was take a piss, change my clothes, and attempt (in vain) to comb my hair. Done by 12:51. We get in the car and the yelling begins. Dad: "You have no sense of responsibility! You knew we were coming at 12:30 and still you were late! When are you going to grow up? When are you going to care!? You never learn. You never listen. You don't care about anything." He pauses so he can think of more reasons to hate me. Dad: "And then you left the door unlocked! Someone could have stolen your computer! But you don't care, do you? I'll just buy another one, right? When are you going to learn?" Mom: "Drop it...he's going to an interview now, you don't need to do this." Dad: "So what if he's going to the interview? He's not going to get the job. He's a screw up and he always will be. He doesn't get anything right. How many times have we told him to be responsible? He's not going to learn because he doesn't care. Why did you have to go to the library so last minute anyways?!" My dad's 5'4", but I swear he's 8 feet tall when he wants to be. This is a man whose college nicknake was Hitler. This the guy who told me when I was 9 years old, "you're the only reason me and mom fight." I was starting to tear up in the back seat. Then he started yelling at mom, so I yelled back. I've done that maybe twice ever. He focused his anger on me again and I got quiet. It went on this way for the rest of the ride. We got there at 1:20. 40 minutes early. We could've left at 1:30 with ease, still with 10 minutes to spare. I tried going through the book with watery eyes, and went in for the interview. "Hi Sushil, how're you?" "I'm great, and yourself?" I lied with a fake smile plastered on my face. "I'm good...I'm gonna be straightforward: We have a position we'd like to offer you." At least it had a happy ending.

1. I'm glad you got the job.
2. Damn, you're alot like my brother. He always does things that create arguments between my mom and dad. And it's always the same thing. My dad yells at my mom and says he's hopeless, stupid, careless, etc. and then my mom defends him. It ends in me intervening and telling everybody to shut up cuz my head hurts. Then I am suddenly the selfish one and it starts all over again. Sigh. Stupid desi families. 3. Are you Mathlete?

i've heard my fair share of that, too, and yeah, it hurts. but a grown man crying for anything short of a death in the family is decidely unacceptable.

I got a lot of this: Are you and Mathlete and 1stDH the same person? Hey, are you 1stDH with a different username? And, I'm not even a guy. I gotta go for the generic usernames containing the words, miss, or gal or baby. Yah, I should work on that one, I think.

he tends to get grumpy from school so when he comes home to a clean apt and a homemade dinner in the fridge he's really nice to me and mushy he's a neat freak so he loves it when he comes home to a neat house and we've got a system for the last 2 years on where things go n shit like that i think when a person can clean up your place and u trust them with that it makes a relationship stronger |
