Default BodyWorlds: A one of a kind exhibit *56 K

Gunther von Hagens is the German inventor of the most modern process of preserving organs/tissue/carcasses called plastination.
Hagens exhibits are now on display in Philadelphia, Houston, and Denver.

Hagens uses donated human bodies and creates sculptures out of them. He strips away the flesh and removes all body parts except for one or two particular systems. For example he might take out everything but the muscular system, or the nervous system, etc.

Hagens also positions the bodies in different poses to show what the insides of our bodies look like while we are in certain positions.

Also, Hagens creates sculptures that are more for artistic purposes rather than scientific purposes.

My fellow forumer, if you’ve read this far, congrats. Give yourself a pat on the back. Do a little dance. Get yourself a cookie. A double fudge brownie, perhaps? Now, here are some pictures from the Philadelphia exhibit:

“Runner”

“Chess Player”

“Swimmer”

Check out the Official BodyWorlds site for more info and photos.

Be sure to check out the page for Houston.
It’s got a horse. Also it has some video clips and some other interactive shit.

This is nothing.
My french teacher went and told us alot more.

1. They're not in display cases or anything, you can walk right up to them.(Can't touch though.)
2. They all have eyes, so it looks like they're watching you.
3. There was also one of an month old pregnant woman with the baby inside her and the umbilical chord still attached.

Crazy, huh?

That's awesome.

Yea, and imagine how long it takes him to do just one.

You know what would kill me.
The smell.
I think I'd be fine looking at it but the smell would really kill me.

Hmm.....they're shown how people would look if they had no skin? Which is why the runner's muscles are flapping in the air, as if in motion?

That's fascinating.

No, I don't think they're flapping.
They're just separated so you can see the individual muscles, I think.
