Surrey Vaisakhi Parade Pictures *Major 56K*

Here's some pictures I took from our nagar kirtan in Surrey that happened the past Saturday. It's supposedly the biggest one in North America since 80 000 people on average show up. It was alright this year, but it did rain so it ruined our moods a bit and we got soaked.

I tried to take a picture of some of the crowd. Mind me i'm 5 foot 1 so it was kinda hard for me


You know my city is desi when we have our own motorcycle club.



There's always two cute kids who get to bring their mini car into the parade and these were the kids this year.


Jagir (a counsellor of this Sikhi Camp i go to every summer) and Jasleen

Joyce playing the Nagara (Drum) (Our float is the first float in the procession, so we get the Nagara, and let people know that the Guru Granth Sahib is coming by playing it)

Enjoy . Btw, Yes, we're supposed to have our head covered for the route but it was windy and our chunis/duppattas kept on falling off, so we just left them as they were.

They're in the parade cause there was a law passed a few years ago that motorcycle riders with turbans do not have to wear a helmet.

So that's the significance of them in the parade.

That's only one part of Surrey.

Surrey's actually pretty big. There's more to it than the pictures i posted.

It's been tested, they even did safety demonstrations at the gurudwara. It's perfectly safe. Haven't had any incidents or problems.

Well not as much as a helmet would, but I guess since there havent been any incidents yet, it wont cause much of a problem.

That's all it basically is.

But I go for the reason that basically all my friends and aquintances will be in one place. And i see people whom I havent seen for years. Oh of course for the free food.
