Default Indian man in UK buys world's most expensive home

Tycoon buys London home for record $168.7m
April 12, 2004

An Indian-born tycoon has bought a central London home for STG70 million ($168.7 million), reported by The Sunday Times to be a world-record for a house purchase.

Lakshmi Mittal, whose alleged links with British Prime Minister Tony Blair once sparked a cash-for-favours row, exchanged contracts earlier this month on the 12-bedroom house, the newspaper said.

The house, which has garage space for 20 cars, was reportedly sold by another controversial Labour Party donor, Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One racing boss, who bought it for his wife three years ago.

The Sunday Times said the sale was likely to be recognised officially in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most expensive ever - the previous record was a STG62.7 million ($151.1 million) sale in 1997 in Hong Kong.

The house is situated in Kensington Palace Gardens, dubbed "billionaires' row", and nearby are Kensington Palace and the London home of the Sultan of Brunei.

Mittal, who owns the Anglo-Indian group LNM, the world's second-biggest steel producer, is the richest Asian and among the richest people in Britain.

He's an idiot as far as his attitude towards others goes, maybe I should have clarified that.

It was one very lengthy and detailed experience that lasted well over a year and I've had more then one meeting with the guy, NO WORK ETHIC.

He may have built an empire and he may be very wealthy but as far as I'm concerned that's all pointless because the guy has no integrity.

My Dad also has his own empire and I've never seen him treat his employees the way Mittal does.

You have your opinion based on what you read, I have mine based on personal experience, we'll leave it at that.

As for the red, it was supposed to COMPLETELY blind you not partially, next time - next time. 8)
