white rapist & killer of farah handed jail sentance

THE family of murdered Glasgow mum Farah Noor Adams today reacted with fury after her killer was caged for a minimum 16 years.

They condemned the sentence given to Thomas Waddell, 19, as too lenient and said they were "utterly devastated".

They said judge Lord Macphail's decision at the High Court in Edinburgh had left them facing a life sentence.

Farah's elder brother Mohammed Shahid, 39, said: "This vile monster tortured and murdered our sister, a young mother who had just dropped off her daughter at school and kissed her goodbye for the last time.

"How could the judge pass such a menial sentence for this crime, given all the evidence and the undeniable facts of the case?

"This sentence has made a mockery of justice and shows other perpetrators of murders that the law is on their side - and not on the side of the victim and their family.

"The judge has indeed imposed a life sentence on us."

Waddell, of Shiskine Drive, Maryhill, raped 34-year-old Farah twice and smashed her face with a brick before strangling her on the Kelvin walkway in Glasgow.

He ignored her mercy pleas to let her live to see her young daughter again.

As he was locked up today, the court heard Waddell had shown no remorse.

Waddell was led to the cells to shouts of "scum!" and "fiend!" from the public benches.

Lord Macphail said the murder was "a hideous crime" which had left Farah's family devastated.

He added: "You followed her. You attacked her in the most brutal way. You inflicted severe injuries on her.

"You subjected her to the most painful and degrading sexual ordeal and then you strangled her.

"Reports which the court has obtained clearly state you have not expressed any feelings of guilt or remorse."

Before being sentenced, Waddell had to listen to a statement from advocate depute Michael Meehan detailing the grief of Farah's family.

He said: "Her family are devastated by her murder and the manner of it.

"They feel they will never come to terms with it.

"They are heartbroken for their own loss - a daughter losing her mother, parents losing a child, a brother losing his sister.

"The family miss her terribly."

At an earlier hearing, car washer Waddell admitted rape and murder on October 7 last year.

Farah, a project worker at a Citizens' Advice Bureau in Glasgow, had just taken her eight-year-old daughter Leila to school.

Waddell attacked her as she went powerwalking on the riverside path, dragging her to a spot hidden by undergrowth.

Farah, from Kelvinside, was said to have made five silent 999 calls from her mobile as Waddell was stalking her.

An official inquiry is under way to find out what happened to the calls.

Today Farah's family claimed British Telecom's system of handling 999 calls had failed her in her hour of need.

They called for a review of the system "to avoid another tragedy".

Have the family present a reward for the death of the man. Most likely he'd be killed in prison. To my knowledge, I am not sure if this is a legal or illegal thing to do publicly? Even in private it'd be interesting if it worked out.

I'm not sure race played a huge factor. Western Europe is notorious for handing down seemingly light sentences for very violent and heinous crimes.

Bascially the saddest part is there was no motive aside from the fact that he was astupid high/drunken/perverted lout who had done a backshift and then got kicked off a bus for perving on a couple of girls (don't know exactly what happened) but then he went stumbling up Kelvinway (long road near the river, its below ground level) whilst Farah was out for a powerwalk.

It's so terrible since I walk along that road almost every day, and although it's creepy at night, you imajin people would help you during the day. And she made like 5 phone calls to 999 when she realised she was being followed to no avail! Her wee daughter n family should sue the pants off her mobile network!! Damn call centres!
