Default Politics of Victimization

I found this on another forum, and found it to be very thought provoking and much needed. What is your stance on this?

Why is that Muslim society nearly always feels the need to paint itself as the victim? As a group, we seem to selectively chose to advocate those causes that can be cast in the light of 'the oppression of Islam and Muslims at the hands of the West/Jews/Hindus/etc.' When you bring up some of the terrible things Muslim society inflicts upon itself, its almost always met with a couple of empty comments of condemnation and nothing else. Is Palestine an important human rights issue facing the Muslim world? No doubt. But why did it take so long for anyone to condemn what was going on in Darfur...where was all the indignant Muslim condemnation of the Sudanese government? Yes, whats going on in Kashmir is a crime, but does all that concern go when we talk about the quarter-million stateless refugees living in concentration camps in Bangladesh? The entire Muslim world is sickened by the human rights abuses being carried out by American troops in Iraq...but where were they when Saddam was systematically gassing the Kurdish population of Northern Iraq? Yes, its a sad reflection on the freedom of religion in France when a girl cant go to public schools in a hejab...but where are all those worldwide protests against the even more repressive policies against hejab in Turkey and Tunisia? Everyone knows about the 3,000 refugees butchered in Sabra and Chatila by the Israelis and the Phalangists. But how many people know about 30-40,000 civilians masscred by the Syrian army in the city of Hama earlier that same year?

Not only is there general sense of complaceny in the Muslim world, but when non-Muslims try to call attention to these issues, its nearly always met with something along the lines of, 'oh, theyre just trying to make Muslims look bad' or 'yeah its bad, but its not nearly as bad as what THEYRE doing,' or 'its out own internal issue, and we'll deal with it on our own.' Theyres just such an absurd fascination with always being the victim of non-Muslim hegemony that all these 'internal' issues just happen...and hardly every elicit a response that would be comparable to any Muslim response to an act of non-Muslim agression. Its absolutely ridiculous.

I hope nabilah18 will respond to this with the same ferocity as she did in the Denmark picture thread.

Oh crap, I mean't to put this in Serious Discussions. If moderators can move this to the proper forum, it would be greatly appreciated.

Should've been paying attention

Based on the topics you focus on, its easy to surmise that you're a rather simple-minded instigator.......and hope you get the "banned" status soon.

Faginstigator.

How ironic. One is advocating the banishment of myself, whereas those who post in these topics are held to no standard.

What's the matter? If you can't debate in a civil manner, perhaps you shouldn't post in threads that are of no interest to you.

Have a good day.

And mods, please move this thread to Serious Discussions. Thanks.

That's because you're the one creating the topic, simple one.

Your position is one of increasing the internal factionalization between Muslims, I question whether or not you are even one.

Your posts seem slugged with comments that either enervate Islam, or points to reason for more internal inharmony

I don't think you have an end-point, but rather an agenda.

With such overt religious agenda, you'll get burned soon enough.

There's no rules that forbid me from creating topics that bring debate. Last I checked, this wasn't religiously-motivated.

Wrong again. My position is to foster debate about the ills that plague our society as a whole. For far too long, we have ignored these issues and now it has culminated into a major crisis which seems to have no end.

You are in no position to question on myself being a Muslim. Do you see me questioning you on whether you are Muslim or not?

That's simply your opinion.

Again, my agenda in this thread is to simply foster debate about this issue of this victim mentality that the majority of the Muslims seem to hold.

It's relatively harmless, and I am for one not breaking the rules.

This is ironic that a Hazarah is criticizing people presenting themselves as Victims

as Hazaras are known for posing as victims in Afghanistan.

Posing as victims?

The Taliban have been responsible for the slaughter of my people during their rule, and I will never forgive them for it.

www.hazara.net for all the information about the atrocities the Taliban have committed.

May Allah swt sent the Taliban and their supporters into the fiery depths of Hell.

If a group of people are made to feel the world is against them, they will unite. Its a nice way to start a war really. The world is against Islam, or so they would like to think.
