I was reading the most recent post on Sikhism by Harval. And it is kind of upsetting that we don’t know more about our religion and we learn most of it through heir say. We tend to believe what the next person says without researching it ourselves. I mean there are plenty of people that know what they are talking about, such as Sharpshoota and Spade, but then there are the ones that just like to think they know what they’re talking about and confuse people. I for one go to the gardwara try to listen to the gurbaani (I think that’s what it is called) but more often than not I don’t understand it. I guess the language has changed over the past 400+ years. So, it is easy to get lost along the way.
We tend to know the basic point of Sikhism which is a good thing, but now if we only know the basics our children aren’t going to fair too well. I don’t want to offend anyone by saying this, but Sikhism is the best religion (in my opinion, grill me if you like) in the sense that it is very open in a way that everything can be discussed and is up for interpretation. In fact most of the Baba-jis are very philosophical and discuss what Guru Nanak “could have meant by writing such and such”, I was very surprised. The Five K’s were put in place by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and the Khalsa was created to help us give ourselves a distinct image not to be confused by any other community. But the basic message behind the hair is that god gave us our hair, now are you ashamed of what god gave you? I myself don’t have a turban or beard but I follow the message of Sikhism. No where in the Sri Guru Granth does it say we have to keep our hair to be Sikh. I can upload the reading of the Sri Guru Granth and the line by line translation the baba-ji gave me a couple weeks ago, if someone really wants it (500mb of the listening, and the translation is 20mb). Heh, I’m not some lunatic Sikh that is trying force his point across, I’m just some average student that is confused about his roots much like most of us are. Just giving you the opportunity to understand the our holy book a little better and hey, it’ll help your Punjabi reading skills as well Enough rambling, my regards for reading all this, hopefully I didn’t sound… full of myself and have a great new year and happy holidays. Goodnight. Juggy Oh sorry if I violated the rule of bumping a closed topic, take whatever action is necessary. I don’t think I’ve hurt anyone’s feelings. :P |

Oh, I may have some misconceptions myself, so please feel free to tell me otherwise, I’m still very young.
Goodnight. |
