So for summer I have been taking several classes. One of them is Psychology of Sex. The professor who is Indian, is an evolutionary psychologist and has several views on masturbation. We have even watched videos demonstrating and discussing the subject. What I found interesting was, how in the Victorian Era sexual arousal and masturbation was looked down upon. I also learned several interesting things. I will make a list:

1. If you were a little boy who had night erections then you were given a penis ring that had spikes on it. So if you had an erection the spikes would poke into your penis. Talk about pain.

2. If you were a little girl who played with herself, you would have your sensory nerve of your clitoris removed. Another option was having your clitoris burned with acid. Very painful.

3. Do you know why cornflakes were invented? Back in the Victorian Era, people were not suppose to be sexual aroused. They looked down upon it. They thought hot cereal would sexual arouse people. So Kellogg invented cornflakes. Kellogg also said that people should only engage in sex once a month. Think about this next time you are eating frosted flakes.

4. Do you know why the graham cracker was invented? Similar to the reason of cornflakes, however spicy foods was thought to cause sexual arousal so the graham cracker was invented.

5. No one was suppose to be masturbating at this time. They even had listed symptoms of masturbating so you could tell if someone had masturbated. Some of the symptoms included acne, rounded shoulders, confusion, and bed wetting. I guess every teenager must have serious masturbation problems.

6. What's the number 3 selling appliance? The vibrator. The vibrator was introduced in the doctor's office to cure sexual desire and women were said to suffer from hysteria if they wanted to have sex more than once a month.

So what do you guys think? What are your views? What do you think about these views?
