THE LATEST ON NIEDERMAYER.
CANWEST NEWS SERVICE: reported Scott Niedermayer's agent claims there are certain teams his client would be willing to sign with for less than top price. One club he's believed interested in is the Vancouver Canucks, as it would allow the Cranbrook native to return to BC.
Spector's Note: He wouldn't be available for peanuts, but he might entertain $5 million per season, depending on the team he's interested in. Yet another reason why I doubt he'll return to the Devils.
VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Steve Ewen reports the Canucks and Calgary Flames are two clubs that might be of interest for Scott Niedermayer. One rumour has Flames captain Jarome Iginla trying to "recruit" the 2004 Norris winner.
Spector's Note: Only if the Flames could get him at a discount. Besides, given their depth on the blueline and with Dion Phaneuf about to make his NHL debut, the last thing the Flames need is another defenceman, even if he is Scott Niedermayer.
LINDROS INTERESTED IN FLAMES?
CALGARY HERALD: Scott Cruickshank reports of speculation Eric Lindros is interested in signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins or the Calgary Flames.
Spector's Note: I'd pass if I were Flames management. Lindros is far too injury prone, even if he were available for a song.
