haha..okay..hmm..how about guns? since you seem to fancy them so much [whoa did i just use the word fancy!?] do the people behind the guns kill or do the guns in the people's hands kill..? if that made any sense.. me so tired..

AHAA, there is an interesting topic now. lol I don't think guns have more to do with killing and vioence as compared to people themselves. Guns are just like fighter jets, tanks and stuff used in wars. The difference is the latter are able to kill a large number of people at once. But guns are still considered badder since the excuse of "Everything is allowed in war" is there. And since jets, tanks etc. etc. aren't sold on streets. As long as guns are used for self defense they aren't bad. It's the people who smuggle them in that are bad. So I would say ya guns are a sourse of violence but ultimately the focus should be on people. People kill people. Guns don't kill people. It's the people behind those guns. What can be done ? Education and Prevention. Fancying guns I fancy them in a way anyone would fancy action movies. Don't most of them have guns? My fancy for them is not because of them being nice or anything. I just like them cuz they sound like a big BANG and they look good in movies. BTW I know how to fire one I used to target practice with an AK-47 that my Grand Dad has in Kashmir lol. But I am me. I know who I am and the AK-47 that I fired would not be the cause of any violence. It depends who's holding it. So ya ultimately fancying guns isn't bad as long as you are sane and you know what they should be for. Fancying them, shouldn't be a bad thing. Being obsessed with anything is bad. People like cigarettes and fancy them. I really think they are something that should really be taken as bad. There is ABSOLUTELY no good side to cigarettes. It depends on the context.I am not obsessed with them and I just selected the Logo in my signature cuz I couldn't come up with any nick while signing up. I chose the nick Gunslinger since it was the title of "ROLAND" who is a gunslinger in STEPHEN KING's NOVEL : "Wizard and Glass". That is all there is to it. Other than that guns weren't my main inspiration behind the nick or the logo. The logo is there just to suit my nick lol. So Peace. Nothing there to be worried about. I don't bite.Ciao
Thanks for choosing a topic and getting me started :P

haha damn, def chose a good topic huh? :P so yea, i agree with you for the most part..but when you say "it's the people behind those guns" you can't say that in all cases..for ex.- take one of those 6 year olds you hear about in the news that finds a gun lying around, thinks 'oh how cool', and shoots their 6 year old friend..that's def no cold blooded murderer there, it's a little kid, and in that kinda case i think it is the GUN that killed, not the person. i don't even think 6 year olds have a clear concept of death at that age..i say get rid of all guns + weapons + artillery & we all live happily ever afteeeer..haha i know that's never happening..
oh & i wanna go to kashmir one day..eventually..my great great family was from there, but i've never been there myself..

I quote
"So I would say ya guns are a sourse of violence but ultimately the focus should be on people."
When I said that I really meant guns are bad. The kids should be kept away from them OR movies and games that have violence in them. We keep guns away still we let them fancy guns in movies and play games full of violence. In such circumstances however hard you try to keep them away from guns God Forbid you put your eyes away from your kids they might use a GUN that you had kept in ur house for self defense and do something wrong. OR Guns are just an option. They might just wanna act like some action hero did in a movie or how their character did in a computer game. They can do a lot without guns too. So where is the focus ? on people that make it hard to keep kids less interested in thrill, guns and adventure. People that don't care how media can have a bad effect on kids. Anyways guns ya I didn't mean to say guns have nothing to do with violence. NO DOUBT they are a source of violence.
hehe ya Kashmir is a nice place. Been there countless times. I hope you get a chance to visit it soon too. You'll love it.

yea..so much violence on tv & in movies..we've like become desensitized to it all..but i guess that's what society likes..& then it's the kids that have to learn to distinguish REALITY & entertainment..

September 27th, 2003, 11:21 PM
Well teacher are everywhere. What are those teachers teaching kids? Teachers = Older brothers smoking. Elders fighting among each other. Teachers= Parents letting their kids LEARN from experience and not guiding them. Teachers = Action heroes in TV that kids like to immitate the most. So what are those teachers teaching. As long as kids would only learn from experience WE ALL KNOW the present world is full of experiences that aren't really suitable for kids. Now when I say Teachers, I mean people who can make the experience more worthwhile for the kids. Make their living environment safe. Tell them what's right and what's wrong.
:) btw you are right too you have a different opinion. I believe kids that have no PRIOR knowledge about life learn from people who have that knowledge e.g. elders. They start to choose between right and wrong from experience later on. Then the experiences make more sense to them. What if an experience was bad and the kid thought it's pretty cool, A guy shot another person, the other guy must have been scared. He would not have been taught and he might wanna scare his friends the same way. WHY ? cuz he learnt from experience and there was no one to teach him about what experiences should be interpretted as.

Guns r not so cool.....*sigh* good old days of past.....when REAL men used to fight with swords.....
Gunslinger
September 28th, 2003, 10:43 AM
lol Shah jee It's the same deal. In old days if one beheaded you with a sword, nothing in the world could reserruct you back. Swords were more lethal. And if you read the previous discussion we all agree guns are bad. I think I made my point. They are bad and my nick Gunslinger, let me make it clear again. I read novels and if you know Stephen King's: Wizard and Glass. There is a character by the name of "Roland" in it who is a Gunslinger. A Gunslinger is defined as an Outlaw armed with a gun. I couldn't come up with a nick so chose this one. It's not that I love guns a lot. Shah jee you are a kashmiri too come on yaar lol, REAL men used to fight with swords. That's like implying that primitive society was more close to being the REAL thing. I agree technology does seem unreal. But it's REAL men fighting with guns too. It's not a matter of choice between swords and guns. If a country sticks to swords as their defense in the present day how long do you think they'll survive in this world. Swords were cool play Prince Of Persia's sequel that's coming up. That's where the swords are now. In the REAL world they aren't real anymore. And Real men these days fight with words, not swords or guns.

The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword
i think its both that give into killing. First the people behind the guns : some of them have been brought up in a bad environment and use the gun as protection or as a symbol of power. If they were treated badly by parents and did live in an crime stricken area then their mentality changes towards that. They automatically think they would need a gun in order to survive in this area or even just be like their friends.
Guns in the peoples hands can kill: Some people might have a gun and have no intent on ever shooting the gun. But its like some rush that gets into you when you hold the gun in your hand, especially if your in a bad predicament ( i like that word). You lose control of your mind and then in a split second the trigger has been pulled and someone is on the floor.
Media definately has a part to play in this. With all these crime drama shows and violent movies, kids these days are wanting more to become like them.

My opinions:
1.) Guns & Weapons: Should all be banned, we don't need 'em ... [if you want to physically defend yourself just go to self-defense class, learn Judo or study a Martial Art like Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do etc.]
2.) I would recommend using passive resistance & 'verbal self defense' first rather than physically fighting [actually this is a concept taught in most martial arts]. Its all about avoiding violence at all costs ...
3.) And for the record, yeah Shibz is definitely quite H-O-T and very good-looking ... she could easily pass for a model/actress etc. (or maybe she already is one, i dunno' :) ).
I've seen her other photos & she bears a striking resemblance to J.Lo!
And if that's how she looks WITHOUT makeup ... just imagine what she looks like WITH makeup? (WOW!)
[Yo shibz -- by the way, very courageous & inspiring that you visited the poorer parts of India like Calcutta an' all :) Awesome!].
Peace, Respekt, Keep it Real ...

i think guns r beautiful, like snakes are beautiful but they are both dangerous things.
guns are beautiful until they are fired and snakes are beautiful until they strike.

i guess the topic would've better been expressed if "guns" was replaced wit "weapons". i agree with Dezi...er, DMX....that ppl kill ppl, not guns kill ppl. in reference to Shibbie's comment about a 6 year old kid accidentally shooting someone, you're right...it doesn't make the kid a murderer but you also can't blame the gun either. weapons don't have any conscious. was it the kid's fault? not entirely but more yes than no. should he/she be held responsible or blamed? no. is the kid a murderer? no again. does it mean the kid had bad intentions? maybe so, but most probly not. sometimes there isn't always someone to blame....i think ppl also forget that too tho. but if the kid jus found the gun somewhere around the house...then i guess it's his parents to blame. not sure if anyone said any of this before or not cuz i jus ran thru most of the threads except for the first & last few.

Exactly what I was saying at the start of this post. I agree with Dezi and now that I've read her views I am like Whoaa, I must really have been right since Dezi has the same views and she can't be wrong.
Actually in the age that we had bows and arrows, using those things required a lot of skill to actually kill someone and not miss. Now blaming guns in the present era that are used for the same purpose( long range attacks ) is like blaming technology. It's not the fault of technology and guns that they've been made easier to operate. Every gadget is becoming user friendly day by day. Now don't blame guns, blame dumb ass people whose ancestors never learnt how to use bows and arrows. They've gotten something that will make them kill someone without first having to get some training and a lot of skill to actually do it. Guns just have a trigger, pulling it isn't tough, but that's not the gun's fault now. Technology is advancing but I feel we're just advancing scientifically and technologically. Our mental condition is still as good as prime mates and monkeys that kill other tribes among them. Now if you give a gun in the hand of a monkey, he won't learn to avoid using it. He has a mental urge to use it to make his life easier, Survival of the fittest is their life. Now humans should learn to get rid of this monkey psychology. for example , the guy who used to pull another guy's leg and drop him off his coconut tree would IN THESE days stand some meters away and shoot him off. Is that the Gun's fault ? No! People need to change with time as fast as technology is changing with time. People need to change their mental attitudes at the same rate as things are becoming easier. ..... to be continued enough said for now Ciao :D Peace
