The Global Call to Action against Poverty is a worldwide alliance committed to making world leaders live up to their promises, and to making a breakthrough on poverty in 2005.
It is an alliance between a range of actors around the common cause of ending poverty: existing coalitions, community groups, trade unions, individuals, religious and faith groups, campaigners and more.
2005 is our chance to ask politicians and leaders what they are going to do to overcome poverty, and to demand that they take action now. This is an opportunity for all of us, together, to demand that world leaders act against poverty.
Throughout 2005, groups and individuals will be planning their own local, national and international activities.
You can be part of this global movement by wearing the white band in 2005. Whether you are a member of an organisation, or an individual who wants to act against poverty, find out more about how you can take action now visit www.whiteband.org

What I find stupid is that poverty stricken children are being forced to make these bands in sweatshops so that their big bandlords can sell replica bands on every market stand and on ebay. These bands make poverty worse.

as for eliminating poverty is concerned, the G8 leaders honestly dont give crap about what goes on in Africa...I dont think theyll make any difference and thats sad. I watched Hotel Rwanda today which is a true story, and the Westerners just deserted the Rwandan people there...and today its still like that.
