How are you going to cite this source? Are the forums at Ratedesi.com going to a footnote in this paper?
In all seriousness, this is not a good place to get info for academic endeavors. Just looking at the quality of postings and users should tell you that. Take any information you get here with a grain of salt.

im from india born in usa.
my parents buy indian groceries from the indo/pak store nearby. they buy tea leaves, spices, indian audio cassettes/CDs, ginger, etc.
my mom recently WENT to india. she directly bought cholis (apparel), jewellery, salwar kameezes, bed covers, decoratory items from there.
are u looking for stuff we buy from india/pak etc, or stuff we buy from an asian store in usa

I imagine Fair and Lovely cream might be popular with some of the ladies on these boards. It claims it makes you white, but it's probably just snake oil.
Edit: Cuticura podwer does the same thing.

I can get most important indian stuff from the local highstreet (sweets, samosas, takeaway, restaurants,a wife), and i can get practically anything indian (videos/cinema/clothes etc.) if i go to an indian area like southall or wembley. but i'm not into indian movies or clothes so i got all the shit i need on my doorstep.
my country of origin is somewhere in the middle of the atlantic between jamaica & england ;)

I get whatever i coud find in the grocery stores. although they are usually imported products from outside my country. But yeah ppl these days prefer or have this mania that foreign stuff last longer e.g like better quality, than local products.
South Asia is still known for its spices, read up history, that the western world tried to conquer us only to attain spice products, hehe.
Khair, since our land produces spices, wheat, cotton and rice in much abundance, we should rather take pride in it 8)
Anyways, i luv spice, rice and everything nice ;)
Am from karachi, pakistan.
