I've watched some of the more popular Bollywood movies but when it comes to Desi cinema I love the classic and older films by Satayjit Ray (The Apu Trilogy).

Anyone who hasn't seen any of his films MUST watch them. Even big hollywood directors regard him as the 'master film maker'.

DDLJ .... for a couple of reasons, saw it in India and that atsmosphere is totally diff to the UK and 2) its was the first in the trend of these new genre of movies.... the KKHH, K3G, DTPH, KHNH etc....
