yeah it was pretty cool, I am glad they showed female imams. The first part was interesting, do u think paki is a racist word? I think it depends on the tone, but most Pakistani Americans don't.

Lollls did u watch it at the end when all those boys in class wanted to laugh when the imam was being interviewed, that lil yat next to the imam just opens his button to show his chain :p :p that was so funny.

well it was four seperate programs about Pakistani culture and its correlation with Britain. All very interesting stuff...especially the Scottish Actor fella who was struggling to reach fulfill his ambitions but remain within the boundaries of what is right in Islam.

I kind of agree with the long haired chap (sorry don't know his name but I think hes a poet or something)..the word Paki has been created as a derogatory term used to describe immigrants from Pakistan effectively flooding Britain. Therefore, it is very very difficult to relabel and rebadge it to something more positive and something we can feel proud to be. I mean do u think the word ***** has been successfully rebadged ?

which scottish actor?

I can't really tell you his name etc and what films hes been in but basically he is a scottish dude born and raised in Glasgow. He is a younf muslim guy who wants to be an actor. Unfortunately, being an actor means just that acting...and u may have to do sex scenes, etc. He did a movie, which involved a sex scene (or several by the looks of it) and obviously this did not go down well in the community. His family was 'o.k' with the idea but he himself was wrestling with his conscience about whether he did the right thing or not....and then there was the gay kiss...but we won't go there!!

I saw the programme and being a Pakistani in England I thought it was good in places. Some issues were good, like the women Imams - which surprised me too until I understood what they were talking about. Others were just pure self-marketing like the Scottish actor. Why the f*ck do we want to know his life story? How many ordinary Pakistanis face the dilemma of having to kiss a male actor in a film or having to go to Hollywood during Ramadhan? Hardly reflective of 'being a Pakistani in Britain'.

Most of the programme was just wishy-washy time passing fodder. I found the best bits to be the two minute snippets between the main stories where the girls in the hijab were asked if they slept or showered with their hijabs on. :D That was so much more relevant.

On the issue if we should see being called a Paki a good thing. That's too complicated an issue. We should just go with the vibe that black people go through with ******. They don't micro-analyse it because it's just not possible.

He was a music producer, was it just me or was his hair and that writers screaming 80’s Rock? Can’t remember the writers name but I have seen a couple of his interviews before, he always strangely has his guitar out. True I guess the word ****** has many negative connotations associated with it hence it can never be seen in a positive light, the same does apply with Paki. I just find it strange that in American terminology it’s no biggy. People willingly refer to themselves as Paki's and take no offence when they’re called one. :sarb:

haha...good old Luton...even the guy championing Luton thought it was..and I quote 'crap'!!! Yeah...poor Scottish fella was feeling the strain there. My opinion is that, unfortunately if u want to be a Thespian and are a muslim then you have to see it in black and white. i.e. no sex scenes!!!

I also thought they were cool.....p.s. did u see the Asian footy girls team ?!!!! they have got to be the perfect desi girls!!! football and Pakistani!!! too good to be true.

Yeah true, i guess they were just breaking the stereotype associated with Pakistans by showing a Pakistani Muslim actor involved with controversial (unislamic) dilemmas i.e. sex scenes in his film, kissing men etc.

The guy is directly responsible for hundreds of thousands of Muslim deaths and pending deaths (cluster bombs that we'll never hear about in Afghanistan and Iraq where kiddies will pick them up and be blown to pieces). A small slip of the tongue from him didn't raise my anxiety or surprise levels any further.

dude...last time I looked I was a male but there are operations nowadays which could change all that!
On a serious note, I think it was great to see women Imam's being developed and contributing to society. I think its an essential part of our evolution to get rid of the small-minded sexist view points that out culture has breeded and NOT our religion.
It was also good to see the Lady Imam driving a porsche Boxter convertible in black!!! damn..we have moved as a society!!

Which is why I still love this country and the people. There is still some open mindedness here that won't be found in mainland Europe and specially not in isolated America.

That could all change in the next few years though with the governments doing their best at scaremongering, but I'm thinking positively for now.

Thats probably becuase the USA is the LEAST most democratic country in the world....Freedom of Speech is non-existent...its just a Bullshit way of winning votes....they used to call Afghanistan & Iraq as the most oppresive states in the World, I think the Bush Administration need to do a reality check and look in their own backyard first..... :)

Yea the programme was decent... Lols i neva knew Luton had such a bad rep.. According to a cambridge graduate, #1 shithole in whole of UK!!!

The scottish dude, he is seriously confused.

BUT the lady 'imam' was interesting... I guess in a purely female head kinda way its aight, as the programme suggested. I think she should go for Alimah or sumink maself.
