The Sikh Coalition, a pro-Sikh US-based human rights body, has appealed to the community to join 93-year-old Fauja Singh, who will participate in a marathon in New York on Monday.

The purpose of UK-based Fauja Singh is to raise awareness about his religion in North America. Singh recently established a new world record for the six-hour marathon in Toronto in the 90 to 95 age group.

Fauja shot to fame at the age of 90 last year when he completed the gruelling 26.2 mile distance in 6 hours and 54 minutes for the second time (having done so at his first attempt the previous year). This knocked 58 minutes off the previous world best (7 hours 52 minutes by D Ramsey of the USA)for anyone in the 90+ age bracket.
