Basically, it's worthless.

No, I would not say it is worthless. There are contradicting studies. Its not so much of a performance enhancer, but more-so of a recovery agent.
My advice is to try it, start around 2g-4g a day, and dont go above 10g.
If you feel that your recovery time has improved after 6-8 weeks of use, then stay with it, if not, drop it.

Glutamine is far from usless.
It's the most abundant Amino Acid found in the human body. Not only does it help transport essential Protein to damaged muscles to help repair, but it's also been clinically proven to be an anti-depressent as well as strengthen the human immune system.
In a bodybuilding sense, this is how it works...
It helps keep your body in a positive nitrogen balance and transport Proteins to your muscles at a more efficient rate resulting in shorter recovery time. Add in the positive benefits of an Anti-Depressant and a strengthened immune system and you're looking at one of the most important supplements to the serious bodybuilder.
The ideal amount per day ranges from 5-15g a day. The best times to take it are before bed and right after a workout.
It's good to go and hasn't been banned anywhere in the world. There's no anabolic properties OR side effects from overdosing.

Another piece of info I forgot to add in is that it's been highly used in patients suffering from full blown AIDS. The anti-catabolic effect has been proven to slow down the rate of the muscle-wasting effects of AIDS.

Finally a guy with some knowledge on here!
I'm so sick of the ignorance on these forums, that I choose not to respond to the stupid questions.
Anyway I havent used glutamine seperately, but the whey I use has some in it, but I dont think its enough to get a positive result.
