give it rest. sounds like a separated muscle, which isn't good.

give it rest bolay tou???
hmmm might shedding some light on what "separated muscle" is???
it's wierd cuz the way i got this pain was that i was sick 2 months back with a flu/cold (severe one) for like a month and had an infection...so i wuld cough like a crazy mofo and i guess that's how i got it...and it was so bad that i could not even touch it n if by accident it was touched i'd be screaming with pain
but anyways it's a lil better but it's still there n hurts when i lay on my tummy or stretch n all :(

separated muscle = when layers of muscle that are normally attached to bone come loose. Very common with lats and muscles that surround your rib cage. I wouldn't be surprised if something of that sort happened when you were coughing hardcore.

If tylenol didnt help then try ibuprofin. If that doesnt help try asprin, if none of them help it may not be inflammation...but something more serious that needs to be looked at.

Huh? The parsee and diet and genetics post? Your post was riddled with errors and inaccuracies, one of them outright ridiculous about all India's development indices being better than pakistans. Rest of it was just your unbacked opinions, I suppose I could reply to parts of it but the post is huge and fragmented, I thought it was getting pointless and time consuming is why I didnt answer. Same with adrenaline's post to an extent.

This sounds rather serious.
You should be seeing a sports doc or something similar.

If it's a consistant pain, it may be internal. You may have indirectly broke your floating rib. Either that or you somehow managed to strain your Serratus (it's the small muscle covering the ribs that give your abs a very nice look).
Check with a doc to find out if it's internal or external.

Can be a variety of things. Best bet is to see your family doctor and make sure he refers you to a SPECIALIST. They'll be able to fully assess you and figure out what's giving you the problems.

Tylenol and Advil are great for relieving pain and thinning your blood, but they won't solve the problem.
Hit up your Doc to find out what can be done to a) Stop the pain and more importantly b) Prevent it from coming back.
Good luck bro, hopefully it's nothing serious.

Now that you mention that you're a girl, it may be a Cyst. A cyst is generally a build up of Calcium formed either naturally or from a chipped bone. Your doc will tell you more about it, but women tend to be way more prone then men.
True story, I knew a girl who had to have surgery on her ass because she fell on her ass while skating and grew a cyst. True story.

You should be able to poke at the rib from different angles and different pressures to get an idea of which precise location the pain is originating from. And advil, ibuprofin, teylenol, asprin are anti infamitories, they can reduce the inflamation of soft tissue that are engorged with blood and lymph but that doesnt have to be the root cause judging by what some people here have suggested.
