the RX-8 is almost half the price of a 350Z. the 350 is by far the better of the two but I think the RX8 has a better body. the 350 is definitely a big competitor for cars of all price ranges...it's doin a great job. hail Nissan

i'd take the 350Z because of the power...Mazda was buying back the RX8's because they put out false HP output figures

October 30th, 2003, 08:13 PM
i admit most civics out there r riced out as hell n it's the drivers that gave the car a bad name unfortunately. but u have to admit, even tho it's an economy/fuel efficient car, it's very easy to customize and there r more parts available for it than for any other car out there. and to top it off, they're cheap. that's y most civics r riced out cuz ppl that dont have any money buy em n since they're so damn broke, they buy cheap parts for em too.
of course, there's always the other remaining civic owners that buy civics to actually tune them up, not cuz it's all they can afford. there r some plenty fast civics out there... everynight 7 days a week, all the local racers/ricers from the surrounding towns here meet up @ Dunkin Donuts @ like 10:30PM for the whole nite. There's all types of cars that show yo, Saleens, Supras, Bimmers, Civics, Integra Type Rs, u name it. There r like 4 Civics there that run 10-12 seconds!! The reason Honda refuses to put larger engines into Civics is cuz they simply dont need it. They're really light cars and throwin in 5.0 Liter engines would be worthless...of course, that'd change the entire car.
The Civic TypeR should be released in the States soon, it's an Si beater. (btw, wasn't the first VTEC put inside a Civic?)

my mom and my dad test drove the Z personally i like the ZX its a classic and this kid in my school has one but there's always something wrong with it...the 8 is nice too...there's this fob that sits in front of me in art...man he knows a lot about cars for a fob..i thought they were all duffers but he's pretty educated...we always get in arguments tho...especially wen he sez 280 rsx lol poor kid...its all good...hey my car has so much trunk space that 2 guys from my school fit in there...notice how i digress...yeah so ZX all the way....280ZX is nice too...

How did we get from RX-8s to Civics??
I would take the RX-8 just because it is far more technologically advanced, handles better, and doesnt suffer from "corner cutting syndrome" that Nissan has been experiencing for the past 10 years. Nissan quality and design has consistantly gone downhill since like the early 90's.

Depends on if you will be modifying it or not. 350Z already has turbo kits out with a massive aftermarket support. There's a reason RX8 is cheaper, the rotary never did work well with turbocharging in RX7 either. I'm sure you'll see some aftermarket support for it but the 350Z is way ahead in the game already. I think its a safe conclusion that rotories are not for everyone.

Yup, rotaries are not for everyone, but they can make INSANE amounts of power from a very small engine with the right equipment. They actually do very well with forced induction if you keep up the maintenance on them. There isnt much aftermarket for the RX-8 because its so new. The engine in the 350Z has been around for a while. I saw an RX-8 today and it was beautiful. You dont see that many good looking cars today. Its very proportionate, artistic, and all the curves are right. Cars like the 350Z have all these random styling cues like the stupid doorhandles dont match the car at all. Thats what I'm talkin about.

Mazda had big reliability problems with FDC3, this is the only time they turbocharged the rotry in RX7. That motor is extremely reliable when not turbocharged. Finally in RX8 they ditched turbocharging for the sake of reliability.
Also they don't really make huge hp. But to me huge is 700+ rwhp which is very doable on some motors, ie 2JZ and VG30 etc. What makes RX7s fast even with lower hp is the weight/power ratio. A 500rwhp rx7 is about as fast as a 650rwhp Supra. But from what I've seen the RX7 guys keep going through motors even at that power level, they usually end up switching to a piston engine. There's a guy on rx7club.com that went through 5 rotory motors before he gave up and switched to SR20DET. The car ran 11s very reliably on lightly modified SR20.
EDIT: Just found out that RX7 with the SR20 is in 10s now. Here's the video:
http://www.tonyw.net/gainesville/shaun.zip
93 base with a red top Sr20det motor is basically stock all it has is a Greddy head gasket, ARP head studs, and HKS cams... It makes 501.3 hp at 26 psi....And a 62-1 turbo.....

There is no such thing as "corner cutting syndrome". You must be talking about Z32s handling capabilites for the past 10 years? Z32(last Z model) has only existed for 1990-1996. That's 6 years. It was also CarAndDriver's top sports car of the year for five years in a row out of those 6. I don't understand how the quality could have gone downhill for the past 10 years if they kept winning the awards for exactly the opposite. Their engines are good for 800+hp on STOCK motor very much like the mkiv.
Lastly, 350Z is siginificantly ligher than Z32 and its specifically designed for roadcourse. Hence the track model specs. Its handling characterstics are completely different than Z32. I've heard of a minor understeer from some die hard roadcourse drivers but that's nothing a couple hundred bucks can't fix. To folks who only drive on the street will most likely never experience this. All in all, 350Z is considered the easiest car to drive to its potential on a roadcourse. :-)

xtcshri2222 dude i love those z's you have in the sig. that car is just sick!!. personally id take a 350z over a rx-8. rotary is just a difficult engine to work with but can make INSANE amounts of power. id say with suspension the rx-8 handles better. come on 1.3 ltr rotary this car prob weighs nothing. so it has to handle sick!! but give me a 350z with a t51r turbo upgrade. tein suspension and volk te-37 bronze wheels. ill be happy. oh and about 450-500rwhp is more then enough for me :)
