"There's not an American ... that doesn't understand what we are engaged in today and what the prospects are for the future," Senator Chuck Hagel told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on post-occupation Iraq.
The fact this idiot is speakling his opinion on, somehow saying everyone supports this dumb war, he loses all crediblity to me, an if Bush ever wants to get relected he better not do something so stupid. I wouldn't go i'm all for america i was enlisting in the reserve till i heard about bush's plans for iraq, total bs, i'm not risking my life for stupidity.

I don't think it's coming back either. Donald Rumsfeld, as much as I dislike him, is the architect of the all-volunteer force we have now. He hates the draft. I'd be surprised if it came back under his watch. But, this administration never ceases to surprise me.

Rumsfeld doesn't exactly *hate* the draft. As far as I know, he made two statements about the draft:
1) The draft is not necessary (yet?) in Iraq.
2) The reason why he does not like the concept of the draft is that it favors certain people over other people.
So, all that would require to get rid of argument 1 is for the US to get its ass kicked, or to pursue something bigger, or whatever that requires more people. With Spain backed out, a request for more troops and all that, it isn't exactly unlikely.
What about part 2? Well, there have been introductions of various bills to 'democratize' the draft in Congress. The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is the discussions on the Universal national Service Act.

Also, with respect to the war in Vietnam, Rumsfeld recently said that the draftees added "no value" to the overall troops as far as troop readiness and morale were concerned. He was flamed by veterans groups and had to apologize for this.
But, you're right, there are a lot of realities on the ground that could change things rapidly. And, of course, the decision to reinstate the draft is bigger than the opinion of one person.

I think that only applies if you're in graduate school or a professional school.

no it works as you must be registered at the sss by 18 if not you can get fined or arrested. it's nothing to do with finacial aid, if your not registered you wouldn't be able to get any type of federal assistence as a man

fuccccccccccccccccccccck, they better not implement the bloody draft.
"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?" Hagel said, arguing that restoring compulsory military service would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face."
BITCH! Nobody even knows what's going on there since the monkey banned the media from taking pictures of the US dead and shit. Its such a USELESS WAR. "Fuck, we don't like him, we're gonna take down the whole country". Ain't so easy now is it. Bah, morons

I think it is for any post high-school education, at least it was during Vietnam.
They usually set these things at the beginning of the draft. As of right now, they're trying to change the favoring of non-college students over college students.

Yeah. They've changed it a lot since Vietnam. If you're in college, you can only finish out your current term, and if you're a senior, you can finish out the year. I don't think a person will get a student deferrment for the time he's enrolled in school.
