punk rockers have no musical talent. The bass stays up on e and a and rarely goes any where else. The drum beats is just base snare base snare roll splash. Very simple and monotonous. Try the mars volta on for size, or wilco, pavement, and you will know us by the trail of dead, to name a few.

that being said, i picked up the mars volta album thinking it would be an overwrought pretentious piece of shit and actually liked it a lot. as far as their lyrics, i look at the vocals as another instrument, not something to be analyzed for meaning. i'm amused by his mastery of the oxford english dictionary. and he has a great voice. (and at the drive-in brought the fucking roof down.)

My problem with most punk rock ---> too much whinning and too much bitching. It's way too full of teen angst. This is a generelisation however. I know not all punk music is bad - that is statistically impossible. But most of it I can't stand.

i agree, there's a lot of shit punk out there. there's a lot of shit in every genre. but there's a lot of good stuff too. you gotta hold on to the good and never let go. i personally don't have a problem with whining or bitching per se - there is such a thing as well expressed whining and bitching. can you imagine music without any whining or bitching? but of course there's plenty of whine free punk. in fact i'd say punk is generally not whiny in tone but defiant and rebellious and if you've never felt a little rebellious you've never been alive.
ps, good call on actually going to punk shows. that's key. afi on stage is unbelievable, davey is a ball of energy personified. and it's fun to be the only brown person in a generally whitewashed landscape - actually can be a conversation starter in mosh pits in between sets.

meh, warped tour isnt my type of thingy...i mostly listen to Nin, Apc, Manson, i only listened to punk cuz of descendants and bad religion n screamo cuz of the used and emery. I've seen linkin park in concert a few months ago and i thought they put on a pretty neat show...quite entertaining. Yes the used rocks, no doubt about it, bert is my hero, i remember them coming to houston 2 years ago on warp tour and there were only 15 ppl by there stage! 15! when i sow them last year there was about 500, if u like the used you must also like thrice, oh ya i went to the hoobastank, linkin park, pod, story of the year concert and personally i thought story of the year was better than hoobastank and pod but linkin park ofcourse took the show. but i still can't see how u dont like warp tour lol it baffles me a little bit because ur into the screamo political punk movement and like half of the warp tour has that, bad religion, anti flag, the casualties, alkaline trio, bouncing souls, fall out boy, the kinison, NOFX, rise against, senses fail, soty, and thursday, i'm sure ur into most of those bands political punk/ screamo? lol not to gloat but i've met the used, and story of the year but hey keep it real (jus like chappelle)

hello, i'm sorry if i came out a little harsh i apologize, when u posted ur first reply saying that i only named mainstream bands it hurt me a lil :( j/p!! oh about the hoobastank concert, i like hoobastank it's just that there played out (clear channel can do that to a band) also story of the years lead singer and quinn are like really good friends and there cd was produced by the same guy that produced the used's cd, john feldman, so when u hear page avenue it sounds similar in a lot of ways to the used's cd, but when u sow story of the year u didn't see the round houses, and back flips? i thought that was sooo awesome how on stage they jus put on a show, and yes goin to concerts is the coolest because u meet some cool people, people like your self, lol and when i go i notice theres no desi ppl which used to make me feel a little wierd when i first started goin when i was 15 but now it's no big deal, i wish more desi ppl would enjoy punk/ screamo but oh well i love it! oh ya a band thats freakin pimp is coheed and cambria i dont know if u've ever heard there stuff but they remind me alot of afi u've prolly already heard them, lol one last thing, when i sow the used last year at warp tour they put on the best live show i've ever seen in my entire life, they are such a good live band and they have alot of heart and charisma, bert's been through hell and back in his life, anyways, at warp the stage is like a foot above ur head so the stage is like 7 feet off the ground, on stage on both sides they have tall sub theres 2 of them on each side, bert gets on the left side of the stage climbs up the two sub, and jumps off about 20 feet from the ground into the crowd, the craziest thing i've seen in a concert, alright i'm out

Evanescence WAS cool at one point...till i got the Cd and everyone killed that my immortal song...quite over played...quite over sung by talentless kids at my school...quite killed...forever...And all the beats sound so similar...i duno maybe its jus me..

met the souls at bbkings in ny last week. great show. one of their roadies actually proposed to a girl at the show and then they played hopeless romantic. kick ass. and then talked to greg, the pete, and bryan after the show. such awesome guys. role models, really.

ps: evanescence... man i loved my immortal on the album, but the single version ruins the song when the drums and the guitars with their cheesy tones come in... amy lee on her own could be amazing, but she needs to ditch her band.

aight i'm back man i've been workin my ass off lately, anyways, so heres a story that i'm sure u'd like wiked :) i was chillin right me and my homie dustin and i run into my old friend shane, lol shane was wearing a emery shirt, i was like dude i've heard of that band and he was tellin me about how bad ass they were so i guess i'm about to start jumpin on the emery band wagon my self seeing how i've seen a person with there merch now hehe j/k i admit u were right i give credit to where credit is due, anyways i went to see troy yesterday that movie is good but it was tooooo long, and personally i thought the ending sucked but overal awesome movie, tuesday is when the album comes out, and i heard it on mtv.com it's awesome check it out ppl if u have a chance, also south park rules my fav. character is cartmen but butters comes in second lol he's funny anyways i'm out keep up the posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

punk rockers have no musical talent. The bass stays up on e and a and rarely goes any where else. The drum beats is just base snare base snare roll splash. Very simple and monotonous. Try the mars volta on for size, or wilco, pavement, and you will know us by the trail of dead, to name a few.


you're stupid. Listen to the bass solo on "Maxwell Murder" by Rancid, and then talk about bass lines.

i read like two pages of this and I got tired so sorry if someone has already said this..
people are confusing punk rock with emo. emo is the whiny stuff about relationships.. it isn't that bad. "punk rock" is now defined as those shitty bands like blink 182, simple plan, and good charlotte..
the only "punk rock" bands I might like are greenday and sublime.. if those even count.
i'm more into soft rock, like incubus (note the sig, heh) and dashboard confessional.. incubus is more like a mix of things though. i like a little bit of emo too .. and very little hardcore metal stuff.. (let the bodies hit the floor! lol! metallica!-S & M... and korn is good too).. yep, that's my point of view.
oh yes.. nirvana is greatness too. i don't know what they would fit in too, but majority says that they are grunge. i love their album 'nevermind'. it was like my first rock-ish album besides 's.c.i.e.n.c.e.' by incubus.
k, i could go on forever but i'll stop right there.

incubus is Neatooo, i liked their old stuff, however the new cd is pretty damn good...Gc only has good slow songs the emotional stuff is the best but i hate how they always involve their father leavin em in EVERY DAMN SAD SONG! you'd think after years of that happening and song after song about the same thing they'd be able to move on to somethin better to write about..but i like em..got Gc buttons on my backpack! :P
