Ok I have read in a few places that eating too much meat is bad for you, that too much protein in itself is really bad for you because you have to detox yourself of all the protein that you cannot use.

Also, they say that meat is too "acidic" in the stomach, and that the human gut is made to be herbivorous because its so freakin long just like a herbivores. And they say that a carnivore has a super short gut because meat starts rotting in the intestines and its best for a carnivore to get it out ASAP.

Now of course, I have also come across meat as being one of the most complete foods around. In fact dairy and meat are in the diets of the hardiest groups of humans around. Among desis the punjabis and pathans eat the most dairy and meat respectiviely and they have the toughest builds and hardiest constitutions. The vegetarian desis are generally built not so well, even if they eat a lot of daal(protein) though I dunno how true that is but it makes me think.

So yeah its hard to decide what the optimum amount of meat is. Once a day? Once a week only? I love meat but if its bad to eat it every day then maybe I shouldnt.

They key is moderation I think.

Chicken, Tuna, etc, when prepared right, are all very beneficial, especially for those who lift weights and excercise.

Red meats, beef, etc need to be eaten more sparingly, especially for people who are cutting and/or dieting.

I eat meat in almost every meal of mine, but that is how I was raised, which has alot to do with it.

You also have to look at age, sex, metabolic rate, goals in relation to fitness, etc in order to assess how much meat one should eat. There really isnt a blanket statement that says "everyone should eat X amount of meat per day".

For example, a young male (teens to early 20's), who has high metabolism and who lifts weights 3x a week can eat quite a bit of meat and get away with it.

I dont know what you mean by "get away with it"? I dont want to get away with eating meat. I jut want to eat within a healthy range. The effects of eating meat every day might be so subtle as to be undetectable since you have nothing to compare it to. I can easily eat meat with every single meal of mine, including meals which are nothing but pure steak and pure burger but if that tastes great but is bad for ones health then I dont want to do with it.

Im trying to figure out if there is a relationshp between bad health and eating meat too much. It might be more complicated than that but it seems that the healthiest people are those who eat very little meat.

"getting away with it" means they can eat it day in and out and not see any short term or long term consequences. They wont gain weight, they wont increas thier cholesterol, or blood pressure, etc.

Errrr..ok that doesnt mean much. They can also get away with smoking a pack of marlboros a day, eating 32 ounces of ice cream a day, eating 2 meals at McDonalds a day as well. Now we know people "get away with it" but it doesnt mean that they could not be a lot healthier if they didnt do it. People get away with smokin cigs, eating ice cream, eating every single day at McDonalds or BK and as long as they "excercise it away" then they dont feel too much like crap and their blood tests come out OK.

But if they stopped that madness they would feel a hell of a lot better and have more energy and better mental health. Thats what I was getting at.

You are using extremes.
Your initial post was about how much meat was too much, and then I simply stated it depends on who you are talking about.

I have a hunch that meat once a week is OK. I also have a hunch that meat every single meal is way too much meat depending on the proportion. The main problem with meat is when its cooked at a temperature over boiling point. It becomes more of a toxin than a nutrient.

They have done experiments on rats that show that rats that dont have enough animal protien are LESS HEALTHY than rats that do get it. Animal protien being either dairy or meat.

The same experiments I am quoting also show the rats that had less meat and more dairy were healthier than the ones with more meat and less dairy. I just want to get to the bottom of this, it seems that too much meat...red or white..is bad for you. In fact it seems that its better to get more of your animal protein from dairy and less from muscle meat.
