if he/she says the following:

1) keep your mouth closed when you run on the treadmill.

2) you gotta turn all that fat into muscle... thas why if u have fat its good u will get more muscles.

3) you dont need to work out your legs often, just lift... u will get big

4) you wanna get toned and cut , do tone exercise, more reps less weight (wow thats dumb)

5) if you wanna burn fat, just run, lifting wont help you burn fat.

6) You wanna lose weight? Starve, watch u will end up losing upto 15 lbs a week, awsome isnt it?

7) Don't drink too much water, it's gonna put more water weight on ur body and u will look less cut.

8 ) Just eat.. eat all you can, eat like an animal dont stop, thats the only way you'll get big (they dont realize, not everybody has a fast metabolism)

these are few things ive heard pppl say in the gym, pretty fuckin dumb

I thought #4 was true...

loll any exercise helps you get toned.. remember it helps. but not enough, thas why u run and lift both.. u dont need to do certain amount of weight and reps to get tone, its not gonna happen your body and muscles cant count numbers and measure weight.

if you're a body builder, and you already have a 4% body fat, yes, it's true.

but for the average joe with his 14% body fat, it's not true.

all of these have some basis in good advice.

1) keep your mouth closed when you run on the treadmill.

when doing cardio for extended periods, it's commonly advised to inhale through your nose & exhale through your mouth. This in part helps keep your mouth from drying out, but it helps you keep a more rhythmic breathing cycle, which is good.

2) you gotta turn all that fat into muscle... thas why if u have fat its good u will get more muscles.

people who have a body type that carries a lot of fat tend to also have the genetics for rapid muscle gain. but they still have to lose the fat before they can bring out all the muscle under the flab.

3) you dont need to work out your legs often, just lift... u will get big

legs really don't need to be worked out very often - partly b/c they are the must used mucles in your body aside from your heart, they need lots of rest & recovery time.

4) you wanna get toned and cut , do tone exercise, more reps less weight (wow thats dumb)

as I mentioned before, this works for people who have low body fat percentages already who want to get that last bit of definition. basically it helps you to develop better muscle control, which will help you stimulate more muscle fibers when you flex, i.e. have more visible striation in your muscles.

5) if you wanna burn fat, just run, lifting wont help you burn fat.

cardio is the best way to accomplish large reductions in body fat percentage. But lifting helps too, the more muscle mass you have, the higher your basal metabolic rate will be.

6) You wanna lose weight? Starve, watch u will end up losing upto 15 lbs a week, awsome isnt it?

A proper diet is a key element that a lot of people lack in their efforts to lose weight. It doesn't mean you have to starve, but it does mean you ahve to eat a lot of fruits & veggies, which is the same as starving for some.

7) Don't drink too much water, it's gonna put more water weight on ur body and u will look less cut.

Water retention really does affect the appearance of muscle definition. But you have to have muscle definition in the first place. But the solution is not to drink less water, but to eat less salt and other things that cause you to retain water.

8 ) Just eat.. eat all you can, eat like an animal dont stop, thats the only way you'll get big (they dont realize, not everybody has a fast metabolism)

for some, they really do have to eat as much as they can in order to gain mass. but it all depends on your body type.

One of the things I find funny is when I see a skinny guy rack up the bench press with a bunch of plates making up a weight way more than you know he can do by looking at him...brings it down half-way, has his spotter basically do a heavy upright row to move the bar up, and then put it back after that one half "rep." Then he walks around, staring at himself in the mirror, and telling everyone how he benched 315.

While I understand the premise of your post, partial-reps can and have been used to break plateau's.

I myself have used very heavy partial reps with slow negatives, all with assistance in order to achieve a new bench-press PR. When one does these partial reps, it forces thier body to adapt to the weight, and in the long-run can be beneficial.

Oh yeah, partial reps are beneficial as part of a strenght/power routine...they're usually only done occasionally though...I'm talking about guys who do that for every set of bench--and not to break plateaus or sticking points but simply to claim that htey lifted a heavy weight. Also, quoting a high bench press figure as being your "max bench" is a lie unless the rep was unassisted and for a full range of motion.
