Is there like someone standing there or is it done officially with some instrument available at the track? So 14 secs for a quarter mile is good or one of the best kind of things? Im not familiar with these timings so cant really tell the difference? Also does your gas tank being full of half matter?

At the track there is a starting point and an ending point...the strip is usually 1/4th mile...you pull up to the lights (the christmas tree as they call it) and setup...first there is the pre stage light then there is the stage light...once both the cars have staged, you will wait for the 3 main lights...i suggest you move a lil and hit the gas as soon as you see the 3rd light flash...if you take off before the 3rd light then you will be disqualified and the red light all the way at the bottom of the christmas tree will light up...if you take off after then you are fine and the 4th green light will light up...when you hit the end of the track there is a board that will show your 1/4 mile time and your trapspeed...most tracks also give out timeslips which will tell you about your reaction time...so yea its done by officials
Here's a pic of the christmas tree at the beginning of the race...lol its a snowmobile drag strip but the car strips have the same tree :D

Here's a pic of the board at the end of the 1/4th mile...top number is 1/4th mile time and bottom number is the trapspeed

Hope that helps...ask if you have any more questions

pardesibhai, u should ask around for your local racetrack. most ppl usually know bout it. runnin the track may seem easy but it's actually a lil tuff ur first few times. it gets fun once you learn to improve your reaction time above all else...i guess besides shifting at the perfect RPM for your car.
Hey Shri, I always thought that a perfect reaction time was .500 but some of my domestic buddies told me that that's not true. they had r/t's of .300 or so n they never got the dreaded red light. my best r/t was .512 or somethin.

most of the tracks have .500 set as the perfect reaction time but there are 1/8th mile tracks that have 0 as perfect reaction...some 1/4th miles have those kinda systems too

Best ever (with all mods) (non turbo and naturally aspirated) was 13.2, if I Turbo her, then who knows :P
With an open exhaust and a DC Header and full interior on STREET tires was 13.7 (very close to stock and one 'free' mod) :P Thats with my best ever 60 foot time of 2.0 (the rest were 2.2 or so)
