Yo, Salaams, Kidda, Namasti Freaks! Were a niche and well were classed as weirdos so I figured we needed our own thread. :( were just the same living with desi folks, the only difference is we like alternative music that doesn’t make us white washed were all pakis at the end of the day innit .
Lols kidding aside just thought the rock fanatics should introduce themselves and whenever you’re browsing the music section drop a line about anything to do with rock.
I am really into H.I.M today it's funny all guys hate them and girls love them, because there said to be the rock equivalent of backstreet boys :p.
Peace

hey!!! great!!
hell yes we do need an alternative/rock thread!!
there isnt quality alternative music being produced in recent years, not like in 90s, I dont know if I'm missing anything.... I am into the older stuff by silverchair and alice in chains these days. not a particular fan of H.I.M their cover of Rick Astley's 'wicked games' was good, another one I liked was "when love and death embrace".
p.s: check out 'Opeth' accoustic metal!!!! wonderful stuff!!

hey, I agree matey music isn’t how it used to be. 90's is too advanced for me...The doors ruled the 60’s, Rolling stones the 70’s and well after that it all got a bit too modern for me lols...I really like oldies.
What did I say no guy likes H.I.M, I thought they did a cover to Chris Isaac wicked game hmmm...anyway that man has issues I don’t understand why like 99.9% of his songs are love song and then he poses as a hard rocker.
If u like old stuff then check out Kings Of Leon, there music makes u feel like u stepped into a time zone and have gone back.

heey. i luv H.I.M. ! i have a couple guy friends who luv ville valo just as much as I do though.. but yeah. There's a lot of desi's into rock these days, but they prefer to act "gangster" because that's whats "cool" now. Back in the 80's when Kiss and GnR ruled the world, it was cool to be a metalhead or w/e. But yeah, rock among other genre's develop and change over time.
There's TONS of good bands out there. Rock is diverse itself, its got alternative/punk/emo/screamo/indie/industrial/oldies/bluegrass/goth/progressive/numetal.
anyway, Now I'm just rambling on about random stuff.

Damn girl u really know your stuff… And u love H.I.M, which means my persona does exist in the states yay lols. I don’t think ville is cute do u? He is too damn skinny (it’s all the drugs i tell ya).
I know what u mean with desis trying to act thuggish. My lil bro just hit puberty and man u should see him trying to play the hard act :p ....he also does appreciate rock, he likes mild bands like Staind, Nirvana, Red hot chillie peppers so I have no idea how he is going to turn out.
I think cool is being yourself. Forget thugs u seen some rockers that just walk around promoting the bands they like and have the F the world attitude. It's so immature and stupid. Yeah i love rock but I wouldn't let it take over my life.

very true.. I mean, LOOK AT AVRIL!!
lol!!
most of the people that have the "f" off attitude think it's "cool" but its sooo fake. lol. Plus, a lot of the people that label themselves "punk" (not punk rocker, not a punk rock fan, but a "punk") these days are soo fake, I swear. FIrst, it was a rebellion that started in england, second, it was rebellion against important stuff like the gov. and stuff, not rebellion against like.. ur parents lol.

Yes urban I've heard Kings of Leon, very good stuff indeed.
wel by older stuff I meant the 90s stuff, basically the whole alternate rock/attitude was the product of 90s, a reaction against the 80s disco, the identity crisis n all and charged mainly by Nirvana's ground breaking "Nevermind". Doors, zeppelin and Stones are classic acts, they are like Mozart, Wagner and Bach's of rock. Speaking of classics and alternative, what are 10 greatest albums of all times??? hmmmm..
my list is :
10. Pearl Jam: Vitalogy & - The Who: My Generation
9. Simon & Garfunkel:Bridge over troubled water & U2: Joshus Tree
8. Black Sabbath: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced?
7. The Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street & The Doors, Morrison Hotel
6 . The Clash: London Calling, & Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bullocks
5. David Bowie:Ziggy Stardust & Metallica's Masters of Puppets
4. The Beach Boys:Pet Sounds & Elvis Presley's The Sun Sessions
3. Bob Dylan: Highway 61 Revisited & Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin
2. Nirvana:Nevermind, & Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon
and the No. 1 is ...........*DRUMS*
1. Beatles: Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band
errrr, I know these are more than 10, wel what the hell!!!

I love rock. Loved it my whole life. Even before I was born- my mom used to play Led Zeppelin lol. Anyway, a few fave of mine are: Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails,The Smashing Pumpkins,The CURE, Led Zep, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, incubus, coldplay, old Greenday (really anything post WARNING), The Ramones, and I know Jimmy Eat World isn't exactly classified as Emo, butthey're as emo as I can go. I dont enjoy alot of Emo music heh. And a guilty pleasure of mine is No Doubt. They were one of the first bands I ever liked way back when I was in 5th grade... theres a bunch more but thats all for now.

hey Maynards!! some really cool band you've got there, ur mom sure is one rolling stone! :)
nine inch nails and rage against machine are surely way up there, in terms of music and inspiration!
I like rage against machines politically incorrect nature with marxist overtones and Guvera style rage!
nine inch nails on the other hand is existential rock, damn! I like Reznor's voice and his dealings with personal and individual issues like love, suicide, life dilemma's, delusions and anger!
one of my all time fav songs is NIN's Closer, beautiful chaos and noise!

My list is Slipknot, Dream Theater, Audioslave, Stone Sour, Metallica, Kid Rock, Korn, Mudvayne, Rammstein, Third Eye Blind, A Perfect Circle, Foo Fighters, and tons more....but my fav are Slipknot and Dream Theater...all of you go get some Dream Theater each and everyone of them are amazing in the way they play their instruments...they are TRUE MUSICIANS...

-------------------------------------------------
Yes Urban! Jim Morrison, the ultimate druggie poet was no doubt more delicate and subtle, he was a proper poet so to speak. He remains to be my idol for life, its just not what he sang but what he did out in the world.
Kurt on the other hand was dealing with different issues altogether, he was in the 90s remember and the reason I put him on top is that sometimes I relate to Kurt more than I do to Morrison . But anyway, I dont think that they cant even be compared, I never wanna do that....just enjoy the sheer 'power' of chords and words!!
Yngwie Malmsteen is genius when it comes to guitar, he is without the doubt the most talented one around, but I think John Petrucci of Dream Theatre has got more variety, wel I like him more anyway. Dream Theatre are just tooo good!!
wel i'm into dream theatre, clash, NIN, coldplay, RATM, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, SilverChair, Audioslave, Radiohead, sepultura, mezarkabul, metallica (post 80s) and and Shakira....lol <jk> ;)

TONS more. but i basically luv bands from most of the subcategorized genres of rock.. whether it be classic, goth, punk, emo, alternative.. w/e.

Do u play the guitar? (sorry for askng all these questions lol). If u do would u be interested in forming an RD band? :p KIDDING. Urban!
hmmm..how can I relate to Kurt!! thats a difficult one to explain!
first of all Kurt was about anger, anger towards society (Downer, Stay Away ) towards the apathy and pretentiousness of our generation (smells like teen spirit, in Bloom) towards machoism (very ape, territorial pissings) about delusions, self hate and inner demons (lithium, dumb, milk it) and then he sang deep and complex love melodies (drain you, lounge act) extreme love and entrapment (heart shaped box). So I kinda relate to this, I know this doesnt quite answer your question, but it does in a way......
Yes as I said Yngwie is the best around....yes I do play guitar, but I'm not that good, i'm below averege.
I see you holding a lefthanded guitar! you play lefthanded, which is really kool!!
p.s. dont bother abt the question its we're here for to talk about things!!

Well you’re first paragraph insinuates one thing that you’re the desi Kurt, now :D …Matey I am going to be really busy as from 2mor, have exams coming and other priorities hence I won’t have no time to spend on the forums, (and the threads have gotten boring & monotonous it doesn’t… what’s the famous british saying ‘tickle my fancy’). So I’m taking a couple of months break and hopefully will get the ‘mojo’ to post around back. Nah I doubt it, see I just got my timetable for the 2nd semester and well I will barely have time for a life yet alone a e-life (I'm doing a BA hons joint degree in 3 subjects), dude i'm  now too, at the time i decided to take that on I had the will power and nerdyness intact lol.
My guitar will also have to ‘gently weep’ (Eric Clapton) as I shall be neglecting her too...eh NO! That can never happen... I might just take up a good friends offer in joining her band. (The agent of blue heard them and was very keen to sign them up). But then my sister wouldn't be too happy, (she plays the electric) and well she is begging me to take on the drums so i can complete her band :p. Sod it, she will forgive me when i'm filthy rich and famous lol.
Btw I have formed a band b4 and well the vocalist and base guitarist were crap and brought the band down so we separated.
So catch u in the forums another time, i'm delegating power to u to continue the rock thread viva rock (shows the rock sign)

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
listenin to Beethoven , ode to joy and 9th symphony! not very rockish I know :)

rockers heres a treat!
has anyone heard Mezarkabul formerly Pentagram, Turkish metal band??
If no, then you are for a surprise!
mezarkabul is a cross between German heavy metal, Swedish power metal, old-school power/thrash with an element of heavy, groove-oriented rock. Pounding rhythmic heavy guitar, which have a driving edge to them. I happen to come across their album "Unspoken" released in 2002 and believe me its not your typical European power metal, mezarkabul are much more refreshing to hear, oriental (turkish) influences can be witnessed and they are merged with rythmic metal riffs at a perfect level, (like Sepultura). This band has the skill and power and they play a style of old-school metal that doesn't need gimmicks to sell well. The powerful track on the album is without a doubt the instrumental "FOR THOSE WHO DIED ALONE" I have not listen anything like this in a long long while..if you cant get the album I urge you fellow rockers to get this single, it is awesome, loud, deeply melancholic, melodies metal.....justtt great!!
I'm not sure if its available on the net, if you use IRC (internet relay chat) you might find it in the mp3 rooms (on undernet and phazenet) or the common file sharing softwares....
I am happy to mail it to anyone, if you have G-mail or pop-accounts.

Lols no I have never gotten verbal or physical abuse because of my music preference. If anything it has helped me to be in with the  people :elaugh:, @ my university about 85% of the people like some form of rock. Some desi do find desi who like rock music weird they are just freaking stupid and ignorant, a couple of my old high school friends share the same mentality. Talking of mentalities i personally think desis for that matter people who like rock music are a lot more smarter than the average lols  person.
I choose not to be friends with closed minded individuals (people who are anti rock), as they don't even have valid reasons to hate rock. The majority think rock is about worshiping the devil and is all about death :elaugh: :elaugh: :elaugh: it's sooo dumb, if u have patience pls do set them straight.
Compare hendrix to any hip hoper/ poper lol, u would see he had talent he loved and played the guitar better than anyone even better than Page. He wasn't just spitting commercial lyrics like most of the manufactured pop and hip hop world, their was real love there, rockers have passion, music is what drives them.
Anyway cutting this short lols I love Nirvana beyond words, right now am in the pocess of reading Kurt's diary, u get to know him before he was famous he was such a awesome funny man, anyway chino from deftones rocks for that matter all the bands you listed are freaking awesome.

Firstly, rock isnt very popular anyway around here, and secondly an asian into rock is considered very unasian  since around here that simply doesnt exist. Ive gotten a few words here and there...''witch''...''disgrace to the pakis''..''satan :roflbow: worshipper'' which is funny, cause none of the music i (and probably you guys) listen to contains satan worshipping verses  So sad...and its funny how most of them listen to rap or whatever and call me a ''disgrace to the pakis''...or have a general negative impression on rock music, when all i hear from their music is ''cash'', ''hoes'', ''weed'', ''shoot'' Like that's positive.

yeah totally agreed. but hey.. all the more unique right? yah man I can't walk around any fobby place without gettin' people staring at me. they have starin problems.. it's like, get a life and grow up, yes I wear alternative clothing and my music is not the same as yours.. um... who cares? I'm just as human as u r. I don't worship satan. I eat rice just like you. But im not you. get over yourselves! loll so annoying..
but whats the dumbest thing is that like, I have friends from everry ethnicity and musical preference, pop, hip hop, country, oldies.. some ppl r "thugged out" and some r "punked out"... and some r mexican, white, black, arab, etc. but I noticed that the only people that discriminate against me because of my style are DESI's. I mean, I know a few other desi rocker ppl *in real life* or well more like i kno like 2 deis ppl and one arabic person. but how sad is that? I go to the movies with "gangster" friends and "rocker" friends, but do they care about how i dress, wat i listen to, etc? NO. yeh im pretty weird too but thts a compliment being weird, its personality babe. but yeah, its really only the desi ppl that discriminate about it, are us desi ppl that SHALLOW and CLOSE-MINDED?? wtf???

You're totally right. The goreh ive met are like ''whoaa you're the first asian chick into rock music ive met....thats cool''....and all the negative comments i get are all from desis. Maybe that's 'cause western values are different..they accept independence and different cultures and ideas arent all shunned out. Desis however, expect everyone to be the same...its like we're all supposed to be hair straightenin barbie dolls wearing nice tight skimpy clothing or Nike advertised all over us. I dunno...it feels good gettin all of this out of the system
But yeh, the friends i hang out with don't really care about my music taste, they take me as i am for my personality. When i first met these guys are uni i was cautious not to mention my preference of music. It's really sad how i did that...but now that they know im a normal, stable human being jus like them, they dont give a damn what i listen to. If i had told them first hand that i listen to rock or made it obvious by wearin all my hoodies, i doubt i would have made many friends around here. Its so f***in sad. It's jus an idea they have in their head that rock makes you a wrist-slittin-depressed-teenager, and now that i've explained to my friends that's all jus stereotypes, i can feel happy that i've made a slight difference to some people's thoughts and ideas.

well see i didn develop my style until freshman year n im a sophomore now. and actually after i started dressing the way i wanted to i've become like less shy even thgouh i really still am shy. so like even the new ppl i meet know that im obviously into rock but none of them actualy judge me, because i've become good friends with them. and even the islamic club that i go to, the people i've made friends with over there actaully really don't care about how i dress. but then again, those people are arab, guyanese, egyptian, and maybe one indian.. well as far as the girls go. idk. blah desi ppl r sooo closeminded though. i roll my eyes to them!! LOL.

I am proud of who I am and aslong as i'm happy...'nothing else matters' (such a great tuneeee) and you're right most desis think wearing clothes that are 2 sizes too small "normal"...now thats wierd! and I don't know about what thy wear in America but over here most desis only wear black like black trousers, black top, black shoes, black coat etc....they all look the same! I would diss the straight hair but i'm a sucker for the hair straightner aswell  loll and the asian guys my goshh! where do I begin!! it's nice seeing asians who are on my level :D

lol...on the contrary I abuse (verbally) all the desis and goras for listenin to that corporate buble-gum shallow crap pop/hip-hop music. I personally havent experienced any abuse, I did convinced and "converted" most of my friends to rock music, they use to complain that its loud n all but now they enjoy it....
rock culture and music has come a long way and it was really hard in the 60s and 70s to be a rock fan and adopt that culture, they were a minority, people really gave a hard time, they abused and scorned whoever listen to that music,(reminds me of Bob segers song "turn that page") but today things have changed, rock is one of the dominant sub-cultures, artists are rich and have huge following and now its the other way around. And yes I dont give a damn about the desi' complaning about the music n all, what I really hate are those pesudo-rock listeners who have jumped into the bandwagon not knowing whats it about and what it really means.... as Mr. Cobain aptly put it:
He's the one who likes all the pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means

Dream Theatre are just tooo good!!
wel i'm into dream theatre, clash, NIN, coldplay, RATM, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, SilverChair, Audioslave, Radiohead, sepultura, mezarkabul, metallica
(post 80s) and and Shakira....lol <jk> ;)
Malmsteen is pretty damn good..especially in the speed department...but then again Steve Vai and Joe Satriani described his playing style as " glue spilling out of a bottle "....cuz he was so repetitive and always concentrated on playing fast.....
All the greatest guitarists in the last four decades had one thing in common though ......inspite of having the ability to play fast they made an art out of playing slower and attached alot of significance to it.....
