I think it has a lot to do with history and the appeal of the "exotic" or whatever, and this idea has just lasted over the years, at least in a lot of North India....It's the same reason why Oriental people put a shitload of white powder on their face...so they look white.

Another reason why is because back then, skin tone generally indicated your caste...if you were dark, that generally indicated you worked out in the fields and did labor work and all that and then vice versa......

But in a lot of areas, i think South India (not sure) as well as in Africa, the darker you are in skin tone, the more attractive you are.....your skin color is seen as a sign of pride.

Did u read my previous posts? The complexion I sumtimes have (and would want to have most of the time) is the PERFECT complexion. Its the best of all worlds, black+white+brown. Right in between if we showed it on a spectrum. Brown is the best of the 2 worlds (white and black) and the brown I like is the best of the brown world. I mean, I'd prefer my skin was a little darker - and if I went to a tanning salon I would have darker skin (I've been told my family gets a nice dark tan). the main ingrediant in skin bleaching creams is hydroquinone. anything over 5% will work. although it works, you have a higher chance of developing skin cancer. and yes, you can bleach yourself at home w/ anything under 5% hydroquinone.

Personally, I like a lighter skin tone, but not like white to the extent others want, cuz I still wanna be brown. Like I'm kinda light brown now, and I think a lighter brown wood be the perfection complexion, like not even white, cuz as I said, I still wanna be brown. But yeah.

Any take on this?

I think a light brown skin tone is so pretty...but just because someone is dark doesnt make them ugly!! There are so many people who have dark complexions but are gorgeous...but yea, i used to (and still kinda do) want light skin cuz it looks nice...i guess im over it now, but before i was like eww i hate being dark bla bla bla...ieven though im not even dark. but yea its just everyone's preference i guz... :rolleyes:
