Whats the best rememdy for aching muslces the next morning after a good workout?
i normally massage them, but it dont help much.
Aside from that, the only thing i can think of is a hot bath, relaxes the muscles a little.

there's not much you can do really.
i guess massage, take a hot bath, use peppermint oil to soothe the muscles or spray on some muscle rub. and do some light stretching, nothing hardcore. just dont over-exert.

Protein builds muscle, it doesn't deal with the accumulation of lactic acid in the body.

i always do loads of streching exercises. still doesnt extinguish the pain tho....from what i hear feeling stiff is a bad thing. means u've done something wrong in ur workout (dont worry we all do it) so there is a way to prevent it all together....maybe more stretches? i dunno

Aurovon, remember i box so my exercise is highly anaerobic. HEnce the copious amounts of lactic acid in my body. Diet is pretty much composed of me eating twice in a day, and if am training that day, i'll eat 1 hour before i train, and 2 hours after.

lactic acid would mean that you have cramps in your muscles, so they're not only sore, but you have cramps? the only way to fix that is loads of water and a sports drink to replace the lost electrolytes in your body.

aren't you a med student? don't you know that the morning after your body is not aching because of the lactic acid but because of the torn and stressed out muscle tissue?

that is not the reason why they ache...The tears are so small and insignificant to cause that much pain. And as i said, i exercise in an anaerobic fashion - boxing being an anaerobic sport so lactic acid accumulates.

you're talking about the morning after.
assuming that you work out right before you go to sleep, that gives your body 7-8 hours to break down the lactic acid. yea. i am sure it's not lactic acid.
edit: wait. you were talking about kickboxing. hmm. i am still skeptic but i'll give you benefit of the doubt since i am not sure about how much lactic acid your body produces during kickboxing and how quickly it is able to break it down.

this is what your problem sounded like. it's referred to as DOMS - Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

and as you can see here
http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/lactic.htm
lactic acid breaks down in an hour or so.
here is the deal; lactic acid inhibits muscle mobility when the max limit of the muscle is reached. once the tissues reach the saturation point the muscle is rendered immobile and the breakdown process starts. at this point you may experience cramps.
but as your initial post indicated it's not lactic acid but DOMS that is affecting you as it affects all of us when we work out intensively.
