04/14/2004. Nine Afghanistan national team players, who were supposed to be featuring in a charity match against Verona, have gone missing from the team's training camp.
None of the players was in possession of a passport, but police said they could not officially be declared as missing until their stay permits expire.
"I'm very angry about what's happened," said Afghan team coach Mir Ali Asger Akbarzola
"Even if they come back, they won't be playing, that's for sure. It's 20 years since our national side last played in Europe and our people need football to give them hope."
