I'm curious as to what read any interesting moments where you've suddenly wished the ground would open up and eat you alive?
Mine would have to be in the District Cup q-final at college, 0-0 with about 15 minutes left and Worcester get a corner. I prop myself up against the back post and catch my breath as I usually did - corner comes in, headed by their striker towards the back post, bounced and was coming directly towards me on the goal line.
I was caught quite off-guard as I was trying to catch my breath but still had 3 decisions
- a) Hoof the ball clear
- b) Knock it out for a corner
- c) Half volley it to a team-mate and catch them on the break....
So I decided to half-volley it with the in-step (reasons unknown??) and as I'd just shifted my body to get off the post and I couldn't bring my foot back that far to get power on it as the ball would have gone in, when I did connect it was with little power and it floated in slow motion to one of the opponents standing near the penalty spot.
He just drilled it back at me and I watched it just zip past my left foot into the net. I was like "oh shit...."! Ended up finishing 1-0 and I was well gutted. The last 15 minutes just dragged on and I was well cheesed off. Afterwards even some of the girls who didn't know much about Football were like "Why didn't you just kick it really far?"
Funny thing was when I did kick it initially everybody was like "Good clearance!!" then seconds later they were like "Dannnnnn!"
Also I remember when I was in the Nativity Play at school and trip overed my gown on the steps when I was delivering Frankencense(sp?) to Mary - gutted.... :x
