I use to think that, until I lived in Japan for awhile. I dont think that anymore. To me there is a big difference between the 2.

i asked a guy at work if he was chinese, i had this keyring .. had no idea what it said.. so i asked him.. He was furiouss.. (he was japanese)

Pakistanis were Indians, so thats different to Chinese and Japanese.
Japan is a separate island it was never a part of China, their languages sound very different.
Plus China doesnt have one ethnic minority (Han is just one of them), it has loads of different people all under the chinese category

It's really easy to tell who's japanese and chinese though, they have completely different looks.
