Some people get into relationships with the plan or during the relationship that they want to wait a while or even the fact that they CANNOT jump into marriage being the end result.
so if you ask someone these days they say im looking for a long term relationship, what is a long term relationship? other than the obvious...
i mean some people go out for like 5 years and still say it will take another 5 years to be certain, wth isnt it long enuf to know someone partly by, isnt it also fun to know someone reasonably well and learn about eachother whilst married etc... keeps the flame burning.
what are your thoughts?
how long have you been in a relationship/ longest?
is long term relationship just a fancy way of saying stick to it for as long as it lasts?
does the fact saying long term relationship give you enough security and stability to be with someone for years?

atleast you were honest about it, i know alot of people that date for years calling it a long term relationship, wth do you need to call it that for i dont understand the rationale, why be with someone for 5 years, personally if i was with someone for around 18months+ id have to atleast think about considering to marry them, i mean i cudnt personally live with the fact that there is no fixed security.... if it was pushed aside id move on i couldnt stay in a relationship that was infinate with no fixed timeline

Yes 5 freaking years is more than enough time:mad:. I have been there man and I flipping broke it off. Just like that. I felt I was on a roller coaster and not a realation where we are getting better. so I said ok this is enough..bye bye. I rather be alone than play that game and now I am:ugh::(. Anyways all is ok.
what are your thoughts? Its move ahead or bust people need to realize when they have become stuck in a rut relationship. Its just that some are afraid of committement, there could be trust issues, alot of variables. But why battle with the madness, especially if its only ones person in the relationship that is trying. In most cases like this it is. For the ones that move on to marriage after 5 years, it was because BOTH was committed to each other.
how long have you been in a relationship/ longest? 5 years (more or less)
is long term relationship just a fancy way of saying stick to it for as long as it lasts? Nowadays it has become just a fancy word. I heard someone say in a thread awhile back that 4 years seem like forever nowadays and its true. But I think I have seen more people knowing what they want and if they are in a relationship and its not it, they move on
does the fact saying long term relationship give you enough security and stability to be with someone for years? To some people it does. To some it doesnt. For me it sure DOESNT! But it helps. Because without a longterm mentality whats the point.

im soo happy you actually have a brain... i think people that keep a rollercoaster going are kidding themselves, yes there are sucess stories but damn theres loads of unsucessful ones too! im glad i aint been in anything like that.. but seriously its like wtf is a long term relationship, i dont believe in that...
i think it relationship then marriage.. or just relationship...
where the hell the third step come in..
give it a few years itl be something like relationship - log term rel - longer term - marriage
im sorry to hear that it happended to you, but im glad that you broke it off, sometimes people do it to avoid the biggest questions, sometimes its better to face facts, you can normally tell within the first 6 months if a persons even worthy of marriage material.. if not dont even call if a long term relationship after that cos you AINT gona marry her...
i would think that the so called long term of 5 years is nothing considerin people live for about 50 years atleast!

Yes they are. Unless both parties have definately plans and stuff. Thier relationship is going alone as it should and the goal is to get married in 5 years or whatever. But have a goal in mind, less both are going nowhere. Thats what I think a longterm relationship should be.
Why be in a longterm relationship with someone you would never marry:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:. What a waste of flipping time and ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!:ugh::ugh:

lol I have no idea, unless the relationship have some sort of purpose then it never does.

Nothing to be sorry about, I made a good decision. Yes you can surely know within 6 months most of the time if you want to marry that person. Yeah time fly by so fast, 5 years can seem like nothing

cudnt be bothered to read the whole thing but longest relationship ive been in was 2 and a bit years with the intention to get married but things didnt work out... i think if uve been with somebody for at least 3 years and things are going good uve got a good chance of having a decent future.
if i got into a relationship tomorrow id make sure from the start it wud have the potential to go somewhere cos i aint exactly young no more :( lol...

it all depends what you consider
before like my yr n half, a 5 month relationship was like WOAH
just depends on your flow with the person

long term relationships have so many different meanings to people these days. for me, i did not want to get into a relationship if i could not see it going anywhere in the end or becoming serious. the way i see it is a relationship is a stepping stone to finding the one you want to be with for the rest of your life. if this isn't the person i want, then why bother. of course people see it differently and want companionship.
as for time taken to move the relationship to the next level it depends on lots of factors, esp age you start dating and where you both are in your lives. if you start dating younger, it should and might take longer to be sure.

If I get in a relationship, its for marriage and nothing else. Everything else is short term to me.
