Everywhere else in India when there are protests, water cannons and tear gas is used, in Kashmir valley, rifles and live ammunition is used. When Hindu fundamentalists go on a rampage, its freedom of speech, when muslims demand right to self governance or determination, they are labelled terrorists and killed.

I would like Kashmir to be totally independent, but I don't know if it would be possible. Neither China, India or Pakistan are willing to give up any of the lands they've occupied.

So looking at it realistically, I personally believe that under article 370 of the constitution of India, Kashmir valley would be fine within Indian borders. BUT only if given full autonomy, Kashmir's internal affairs should have absolutely nothing to do with rest of India, but foreign policy and protection of Kashmir should remain under the central govt. Central govt needs to completely butt out of Kashmiri politics, it is their continuous meddling and rigging that has caused all this grief.
LOC be finalised, and borders softened to allow for free trade between Paki and Indian J&K areas, both The Army's be moved back to traditional Indian and Pakistani borders, and LOCAL law enforcement forces be stationed at the LOC, NOT THE MILITARY. Pakis wont cross over if they have no Indian soldiers to kill. All security forces in the valley must be koshur speaking, that is pretty much a fundamental requirement for the people to actually obey the law, and for law enforcement authorities to have any credibility.

Also Kashmir is not part of India or Pakistan legally, or in the eyes of the UN. It is disputed territory. A decision is to be made pending a plebiscite which the UN ordered in 1951, but neither the Indian nor the Pakistan governments have honoured it to date, both blame each other.

The people have had no say whatsoever, and after being fed up with both India and Pakistan, are demanding independence from both. I don't see why it's so hard to just leave us alone and let us mind our own business. We haven't done anything to either countries, yet both kill us indiscriminately and suppress us.

The valley needs to be demilitarized. PERIOD. Before that happens, we will not be able to sit down and talk about the future. It is just totally unfair. Pakistan doesn't even come into the equation any more, we don't want Pakistan, we don't want anything to do with their mess, and we definitely don't want their political filth (Zardari) nor their sham of a democracy. In a poll conducted in Srinagar in which people were asked to chose from 'Independence, Joining Pakistan or Remaining with India' 92% chose independence, 6% Remaining with India and 2% to join Pakistan.

In conclusion, the short reply to your question would be: Yes Kashmir can work and benefit hugely within India, but ONLY IF INDIA CHANGES ITS POLICIES AND LETS US.

The valley needs to be demilitarized. PERIOD. Before that happens, we will not be able to sit down and talk about the future. In conclusion, the short reply to your question would be: Yes Kashmir can work and benefit hugely within India, but ONLY IF INDIA CHANGES ITS POLICIES AND LETS US.

As a indian im going swallow my pride. and say i agree with you totally. my family isnt going to be happy with this.

but two things. i have to say.

1. we indians love kashmir, and most of us are not to blame for what the Indian Military does there.

2. The Raja of kashmir opted for kashmir to be a part of india. I hope it was the right decision. Im sure it is going to be a struggle. but once it happens, and everyone is happy. im sure we will all benefit.

I personally have been there before. to jammu and kashmir. i love that place. wouldnt mind to have a place there in the future. but peace is required. lets hope the right things happen in our life time. god willing.
