Folks,

Rock on marks the debut of Farhan Akhtar as an actor and as a singer.It is also the debut movie of Prachi Desai- a popular tv actor. The story is about 4 young boys who put together their greatest dream to form the best rock band the country had ever seen...So what's your take in it? :wavey:

Mediocre, poorly researched and utterly cringeworthy.

Oh I haven't seen it yet, but I will, if only to confirm what I've heard on the album and seen in the trailers is as bad as my first impression has led me to believe.

Fail #1 :

Farhan Akhtar, while discussing the background for the movie says "It is set in the year 1998, and the birth of the grunge movement."

EPIC MEGA FAIL. :rofl: :rofl:

Fail #2 :

The band in question is built up as "India's best rock band". The guitarist, however, uses in the movie an effects processor known as the Zoom 505, an absolutely amateur piece of equipment which no self-respecting serious musician, not to mention from "India's best rock band" would never be using.

But then again, I don't expect Akhtar or any other Indian filmmaker to pay attention to such details.

Fail #3 :

Please watch Arjun Rampal's lamentable efforts to play guitar in the promos. Also watch the contrived "rockstar" act from the band.

The way Rampal plays guitar is an abomination. I've seen auto-rickshaw drivers dig their bum with more skill than this. Why couldn't they get him out of the beauty salon and tell him to learn the basics at least? People destroy their health and go to extreme lengths for a role (De Niro, Hillary Swank, Matt Damon, etc. have all done it), and people like Rampal don't even learn the very basics of guitar. Seriously, how can you watch this and not cringe?

Fail #4 :

The songs on the album have basslines. Band does not have bassist. 2 + 2 = failz

Oh, and the songs themselves might as well have been written for Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya or any other Farhan Akhtar movie. There's nothing even remotely rock 'n' roll about them. It's not just about having distorted guitars and long hair. Where's the pomp, the madness, the over-the-top grandeur ?

I've nothing against bollywood finally making films that address urban and suburban subjects. I welcome it, in fact. I just wish they'd not be so fucking lazy, put in some more work in researching their subject matter and not resorting to the same cliches and stereotypes.

As a musician, long-time member of the Indian rock scene and a passionate metalhead, I can see that this movie is going to be an embarassment and an onsult to what rock 'n' roll and the scene truly stands for.

but guys dont you think the story will be some what similar to Dil Chahta hei ....!!! as it also had 3 friends:D
