Man admits nursing home murders

One victim was beaten up, the other smothered

A man has admitted the murders of two women at a nursing home in Leicester.

Nathan Mann killed Rashmi Badiani, 56, and Radhaben Chauhan, 72, during a burglary at the Hayes Park Nursing Home last November.

The 20-year-old, of Avonside Drive, Crown Hills, Leicester, pleaded guilty to two charges of murder when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing while psychiatric reports are prepared.

'No memory'

The women's bodies were discovered by a member of staff in the room they shared at the nursing home.

Mrs Badiani had suffered head injuries and Mrs Chauhan was smothered.

Nathan Mann was arrested just days after the killings

The prosecution has also alleged there was sexual conduct in both of the killings, which is denied by Mann.

His defence team has said he had no memory of the incident.

The court heard the starting point for sentencing is 30 years.

Speaking after the hearing, Det Ch Insp Phil Smith said: "Mann is a violent and dangerous individual.

"He took the lives of two defenceless vulnerable women in an unprovoked and cowardly attack as they lay in their beds.

"This was a horrific incident that has devastated two families now united in grief."

Dilip Popat, Mrs Badiani's brother-in-law, said: "We have lost a dear and loved member of our family and that pain will never go away. Rashmi was always ready to help others and never hurt anybody."

Speaking on behalf of Mrs Chauhan's family, her son-in-law Vinjay Solanki said: "Mum was loved by all her family and always had a smile on her face. She will always be missed and remembered by us.

"Mann took away from us one very precious person who can never be replaced. We will never forgive him and he must pay for his crime."

Nathan Mann? A muslim?? I highly doubt that.

Mann is a common surname even in America. Although in the desi community, Mann's are traditionally punjabi (more on the Sikh side, rather than the Pakistani side).
