well id say it was intereting to say the least, i especially liked the way that white looking chick wearing the hijab avoided all of the quastions asked to her. it was if she was brain washed!!
aslo why did the 2 different imaams from different countries who preach from the same book have different ideas on female circumcision? could it be one copy of the Quran is different to the other?
PLS be advised this thread is purly out of curiosity and for discussion purposes only and is in no way intended to offend!

female circumcision is NOT allowed in islam. the other chap was just on one. some of it was a load of made up nonsense and at times did highlight some good info.

so your saying one of the Imaam guys was lying?

July 15th, 2008, 02:12 PM
that stuff isnt realli in the quran... so these imaams go by different hadiths, and different cultures, so they get influenced.. its not realli lying. like, u cant find the word hijab in the quran, all it says is cover your beauty, the hijab came into popularity because of christians (the virgin mary, nuns and what have you) and we started wearing it, and we just got so used to seeing it, that we just natually say that girls have to wear a hijab...

im just confused that everybody says theyre preaching from the same book, yet they all interpret things to make them totally different to what the book says!
this is something i disapprove of! if your gonna preach it, at least preach it the way it was intended to be!!

BUT HOW does anyone know for 100% what the intention of the text is?
as u said people interpret things differently, so how will everyone agree on one interpretation?
interpreting is one thing but what about when you translate that in to another language? sometimes it can change the whole meaning of text after being translated.
so in this situation, what does one do?

[QUOTE=London_Man;10669861]
so what your saying is that theyre preaching lies?
no, not lies. just the truth which has been slightly adjusted. but then again.. if its not been interpreted correctly, how can it be the truth?
and if two scholars disagree on an interpretation... whom do we follow?
and as I said before.... translating from language to another is another problem. eg. when translating Arabic to English... one word can change the whole meaning of the sentence.
so those who cant speak/understand Arabic, I know many Muslims can read Arabic, but don't understand it) how do u know what has been 'translated' has been done so in a correct way? as well know, everyone thinks and interprets things differently.

Why is it practised in Islam when so many Muslims so obviously despise it?
it only happen in and around the african sub continent
not pakistanm.. not india nor other muslim countries. it cultural rather then islamic.
The traditional cultural practice of FGC predates both Islam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam) and Christianity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity). A Greek papyrus from 163 B.C. mentions girls in Egypt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egypt) undergoing circumcision and it is widely accepted to have originated in Egypt and the Nile valley at the time of the Pharaohs. Evidence from mummies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mummies) have shown both Type I and Type III FGC present.[32] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_genital_cutting#cite_note-Skaine_2005-31) While the spread of the practice of FGC is unknown, the procedure is now practiced among Muslims, Christians, and Animists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animism).[33] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_genital_cutting#cite_note-32)

Give us a detailed review when you've seen it all.
I haven't seen it myself but I'm interested in the views of others, especially non-Muslims.

Lovey..the meaning of the word hijab, in full context does not fall on a piece of cloth as so many people say it to be. The proper use of hijab would be the lowering of the gaze, your actions and the way you carry yourself (Which is also reflected in clothing). Which in turn means men TOO are liable to "do hijab". One could cover themself from head to toe and still go to hell for not praying or acting in an upright matter
As for the ayat in the Qur'an which calls for a woman to cover herself, it is interpreted in many ways. Back in the prophets days woman would wear this piece of cloth on their head and throw it back to hang from behind. Thus also exposing cleavage and what not. The ayat called for the woman to take her "jilbab" and pull it over to cover her beauty. THIS is wear some fatwas say its interpreted to cover your face along side with it where as others not.
There is also the hadith where one asked the Propeht (saw) what one could see of a woman and he responded by pointing to his face and hands and said "only the obvious"
So yes there is some influence of dress from christianity, but seeing as how Islam gives the same message there OBVIOUSLY would be that similarity. Plus, every country has different ways of wearing it
Take care =)

i find it sad how so many 'muslims' think this documentary was a good one. It made the Qur'an appear flawed. It even went as far as to imply that there may be fabrications within the version we read today. And what was with trying to find contradictions?
The Qur'an is the word of God. It has been memorised off by heart by millions through one generation after the next...hence it is the only book on this planet today which has not nor ever will be fabricated. Insha'Allah. A terrible documentary on the whole.
