Okay, so my friend boyfriend who is Pakistani and she is Bengali had a fight over the stupidest thing which was the history of the war between these two countries which led to a fight between her saying "this is why there going to be fights with your family and I" the guy started laughing but she is concerned with it apparently her dad hates Punjabi Pakistani, I just wanna why would Bengali’s and Pakistani’s getting married be a problem like there both Muslim, what the problem with it?

Wow, Bengalis and Pakis arguing, and I can tell our fellow Indians are laughing at us. First of all I'm Bengali and most of my freinds are Paki so I'll speak on a neutral stand.

This is how I see it with a girl guy relationships and it's true. One of my frinds has three bhabis all are Pakistanis and their husbands (my freind's cousins) are Bangladeshis, and things are great in their relationships.

Relationships in which there is a Bengali guy and a Paki girl works out fine, because the Bengali guy doesn't care about history and doesn't bring it up with his Paki girl he just loves her. On the other hand when we have a Paki guy and a Bengali girl things don't work out too well because the Paki guy brings out the lies from what he was taught (it's not his fault) about the past and, obviously Bengalis being proud people, she will stand up and argue and defend her blood.

My family were killed both by Paki soldiers and AL Bengalis so we're on a neutral stand here we got hit on both sides in East Pakistan.

The reason old generation don't like Pakis because most Pakis are Punjabis; however they have no problem with other Pakis. All of my close freinds are Kashmiri, Bengali (not Bangladeshi), Mohajirs, Gujurati, all from Pakistan, but none of them are Punjabis. I think Punjabi guys are too proud to admit to any faults that's why Bengalis can't get along with them.

However, as a Bengali, the war is over and I think we should not bring it up.

From experience, bengali + pakistani.

Wont work. No matter how hard you try, the family and or the extended family dont want it to work.

I am bengali - i sadly have finally had my eyes 'fOrCeD' open.

Would never wish on my worst enemy, what i seen and witnessed, heard and went through :-(

but seriously, the war wasnt that long ago. alot of younger pakistanis know almost nothing of it. some will testify that they won the war (wtf?). but whatever, its our grandparents beef and we should not be fighting over it in relationships. theres a strong distinction between the bengali and paki culture, i think issues would lie there moreso than over who won the war.

all parents usually want the girl / guy to marry someone who they know or in the same culture...so bengali to marry bengali and pakistani to marry pakistani.

i mean all in all same if your all Muslim - but nowadays aint really about religion - its culture. Islamically a female can marry anyone who is a Muslim really, with willing parents, but the thing is it is more often than ever that parents want to be parents and knwo the family who you are marrying into - i think it is a security thing, they try to give you all the ingredients for a potentially successful marriage!??!
