you know, Pukhtoons always prefered Karachi over Lahore while doing business, migration, work etc. Thats why the population of pukhtoons living in Karachi alone is bigger than the pukhtoons living in Peshawar itself.

General myth that surrounds Pukhtoon mentality is that Lahori are not good while doing business, mostly they are oppertunitists, and no matter how fair you think you are going with them one day you will be backstabbed. (Im one victim). They cant keep promises in bussiness, never fulfill thier committments and so on. Pukhtoons also say punjabis are 'padd marr'. i dont know what does that means.

On the other hand Karachi people are cool, disciplined, committed and possess every single positive quality and etiquettes of trade that may attract business and customers to keep coming back for more business again and again.

Thats why we see that Karachi alone and not sindh produces a rough figure of more than 50% of revenue of Pakistan.

On the other hand what Lahoris think of Lahore now is something what Karachi people got over with in early 80's. No matter if it concerned education, uber posh life style, eating out, fashion, cars, planning, buildings, hang outs, multi-national food out lets/clothing outlets and you name it.

Karachi my friend, is a metropolitan city. Its 4 times bigger in size than Lahore and the ego of people living in lahore specially the ones that say, lahore is lahore. I always hated this phrase, made lahoris look bad when they claimed a uncertainity of a uneducated 'Paindu' mind that possesed false proudness that looked down upon every other person living outside Lahore. It seemed like lahoris have never seen any thing outside lahore, or lets say they havent seen Karachi that rocked big time with people with less or zero prejudice.

These prejudices are a slippery slope my friend and if you ever want to debate something do not generalize as your arguements will be punched full of holes. I've met nice sindhis, urdu-speakers, punjabis, pathans and balochis. You having lived "most" (a relative term) of your life in Pak doesn't make you an expert on it, especially if the majority of those years were pre-teen.

Your opinions on MQM or "mahajirs" (personally, I abhor that term) would be influenced by your familial political support of PPP. You said this isn't political and I'll give you that but biases do creep in due to various reasons and we may not necessarily realize their existence.

Finally, you mention the whole "Karachites have no tradition while Lahore is steeped in culture and tradition", furnishing examples of Basant and Eid. Like I said in my previous post, Karachi is a melting pot of different people. As for the "mahajirs" they are made up of different people from different parts of the British India. You've got Gujratis, Rajastanis, Biharis, Hyderabadis, Delhi-ites, etc. Each one of these people DO have their own cultures and traditions. The reason that you don't see these en masses is because the communities all tend to do their own thing. Their is no city-wide festival like Basant or something. They just do what they do in their own part of the city (and keep in mind the size of Karachi).

In addition, if I'm not mistaken the tradition of Basant is steeped in an agrarian society. A lot of the people who populate Karachi who've had families there for at least 50 years (pre and peri-independence) have a more urban experience in that something like Basant would not feature that predominantly.

I think it's quite naive of you to think that Karachi.. or it's denizens... are culture-less and/or tradition-less. It's fine for you to love your city and diss another but you stand on shaky ground with that justification for your prejudice. If anything, Pakistanis should be thinking of themselves as Pakistanis rather than Karachi-ites, or Lahoris or Peshawari (or Sindhi, Punjabi, Pathan, Mahajir). This kind of discord will lead to nothing but sorrow, bro.
