Asian man tells of mugging by racists with 'Rambo' knife
By ALAN McEWEN
AN Asian man today described how he feared he would be killed by racist muggers who slashed him on the head with a "Rambo-style" knife.
Shahab Tariq was attacked just yards from his front door by the two men who robbed him of £150 and his mobile phone.

ORDEAL: Shahab Tariq was knifed and punched as he walked to the shops
The 26-year-old was left with a gaping wound to the back of his head which needed five stitches and two staples.
Mr Tariq was also punched in the face by both men as they demanded he hand over his money.
Police today appealed for help in tracking down the two suspects who carried out the attack in Trafalgar Lane in Leith at 8pm last Sunday.
Mr Tariq, who moved to Edinburgh in 2000 from Khanewal in Pakistan, said he had been on his way to a shop near his home when he spotted the two men hanging round the end of his road.
He said: "I didn't like the look of them so I tried to move in another direction. But they still came up to me and grabbed me. One of them said, "Give me your money you black b******". He tried to say it quietly so the other people in the street wouldn't hear.
"The man pulled out a knife which was about eight inches long. It was a Rambo-style knife and he put it close to my face.
"Both of them started punching me in the face while they had hold of me. I was left with a cut above my eye.
"Then the man with the knife tried to stab me and cut the back of my head. I honestly thought they were trying to kill me. I handed over £150 and my phone. Then someone shouted from across the street at
them and they ran off."
The suspects ran off towards Ferry Road following the racially-aggravated assault and were lost to sight.
Mr Tariq, who is currently unemployed, managed to stagger back to his flat with blood pouring from his wound. A neighbour called for police and an ambulance which took him to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
He added: "I went to the hospital to get stitches and staples. I believe I was very, very lucky to be alive."
The first suspect is described as white, 25 to 26 year's old, 5ft 10in, stocky with short dark hair. He was clean shaven with a scar below his left eye and a local accent. He was wearing dark clothing.
The second man was white, around 28 years old, 5ft 11in, slim, with short brown hair. He was also clean shaven with a local accent. He was wearing a light blue sweatshirt, light-coloured tracksuit bottoms and a gold bracelet.
