There's a Muslim Culture? New to me.

Well, a women has to be covered, not showing her figure, as mens lust can be dangerous. Hijab is something you were around the head to cover your hair down to the shoulder.

I don't know whether you're trying to find out about the Niqaab maybe? Which is the facial coverage.

To my knowledge Islam instructs women to cover themselves in order for them to be safe from evil, and in this case it's the covering of the head to toe, i think if you ask muslim women who practice this they will tell you that it liberates them.

Western culture sees it as a form of oppression, but that's because they don't want to really give any credit where it's due.

Hijab has several reasons to it, hijab is mandatory while nikab (face covering) is not.

Hijab helps the woman to be an equivalent with males, which means instead of people focusing on her beauty, they would give equal attention to her mind. It's to show that one is aware of dignity and shame, because once a woman wears hijab she also has to be modestly covered throughout her body. Hijab is also something which unites all Muslims (or supposed to) and be a representation of Islam. Hijab IS expressed in the quran (although the word is not) and many Hadiths (saying, qoutes) from the Prophet reveal hijab as mandatory.
